An Indian man has invented a refrigerator that runs without electricity, as he aimed to create one that’s affordable for the masses.
Munshukhbai Prajapati made the refrigerator entirely out of clay, and the gadget uses no electricity.
He spent nearly two years to come up with the concept of the earthen refrigerator and named it “Mitti Cool” or cool clay.
The earthen refrigerator can keep 20 litres of water cool, and vegetables and milk fresh for up to three days.
Priced at US$60 a piece, the refrigerator has become the most sought after household appliance among the rural poor Indians, who could only once dream of owning a refrigerator.
Customer Heena Ben said: “This earthen fridge is very affordable, especially for the poor. You don’t pay any electricity bill. So it’s very beneficial for us.”
Prior to the earthen fridge, Prajapati has also designed a clay filter, which also runs without electricity.
That has been a huge hit among consumers, too.
Prajaparti may have two successes under his belt.
But the inventor in him isn’t taking a break.
Prajapati plans to continue thinking up new ideas on how to help people save costs and money.
