Osaka, Jan 10, 2008 (Jiji Press) – Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. said Thursday it will start selling white goods such as washing machines, refrigerators and air conditioners in Europe in fiscal 2008, which begins on April 1.

The company sells digital audio and video equipment in Europe but not home electrical appliances.

Matsushita will sell white goods in Europe under the Panasonic brand in line with a plan to change its corporate name to Panasonic Corp. on Oct. 1, the company said.

President Fumio Otsubo said at a press conference that Matsushita’s European sales are expected to exceed 10 billion yen in fiscal 2009.

In line with the launch of European sales, Matsushita will reinforce sales of Panasonic-brand home electrical appliances in such emerging markets as Brazil, Russia, India and China, aiming at achieving double-digit growth in overall overseas sales in fiscal 2008.
