NAPIT has announced it will be entering the bid to take over the Gas Safety Registration Scheme from Corgi, the current national watchdog for gas safety.
NAPIT already runs Competent Persons Schemes across the electrical, plumbing, heating and ventilation sectors, was appointed by the Department of Local Communities and Government and is also registered with TrustMark.
Considered within the industry as an innovative organisation that demands high standards for its members, NAPIT will be one of the companies looking to replace Corgi and initiate a new scheme to improve gas safety.
“Our aim is to drive the industry forward in a fair and non-monopolistic manner,” said John Andrews, chief executive of NAPIT. “NAPIT prides itself on its ability to listen to the needs of the industry and respond accordingly. The decision to put ourselves in the running was the result of numerous approaches by industry stakeholders, urging us to participate in the franchise competition.”
Short listed entries will be invited to bid before a panel from the Health and Safety Executive, before the announcement of a winner expected in January 2008.
