KESA To Sell Off Swiss Retail Operation

Kesa has entered exclusive talks with Swiss electricals retailer FUST to sell its Swiss operation for CHF20m (£11.4m). The Comet owner said that a sale would not result in a loss and that negotiations will include obtaining certain approvals that should be completed in the coming weeks.

Kesa To Cut More Jobs

It has been widely reported today that electricals retailer Kesa has said it will cut jobs and close some of its stores in Spain as it announced a 7.5% drop in total like-for-like sales. Overall however the company traded in line with its markets.

In a press release this evening Comet has announced it has entered into a consultation process with some of its office-based workforce. The period of consultation will now begin with around 280 staff in office-based roles across the UK, with a view to making redundancies.

Comet To Charge For Shelf Space

Comet, the Kesa-owned high street electrical chain, is understood to be planning to charge for shelf space. The retailer has confirmed that it is currently in talks with suppliers. The move comes just weeks after the group posted a 71% profit crash in its half year results in December.
