The world’s largest appliance manufacturer, Whirlpool, have announced solid net earnings growth for the fourth quarter of 2011 and was upbeat about prospects for 2012 after a tough year in 2011.

The US Government are said to be going to investigate Whirlpool’s complaint that producers of large, residential washing machines made in South Korea and Mexico are selling these washing machines below cost to American consumers.

Whirlpool filed legal action on Friday against South Korean rivals LG and Samsung, saying they dumping underpriced washing machines into the US market in violation of trade laws.

Two Whirlpool units and Panasonic are among companies that agreed to pay European Union antitrust fines totaling €161 million for fixing prices of refrigerator compressors.

Bloomberg reports that Whirlpool sank the most since 1987 after saying it will cut 5,000 jobs and lowering an annual profit forecast by as much as 36 percent with demand in the US falling.

We’ve ben waiting on this for some months and now the US Commerce Department has said that both LG and Samsung dumped refrigerators at low cost, in a case brought by Whirlpool Corp. The agency set duties of as much as 36.65%.

Whirlpool has announced it is making “organizational changes.” The changes include layoffs, but the company is not specifying how many people will lose their jobs.
