The Knox County state’s attorney says he plans to file a lawsuit against the Maytag Corporation.

Paul Mangieri says Maytag owes more than one million dollars in real estate property taxes for its plant in Galesburg, which is about 50 miles northwest of Peoria. Maytag officials did not return calls for comment today.

Maytag is closing its refrigeration plant in Galesburg. Maytag announced in October 2002 that all 16-hundred employees at the plant would lose their jobs by the end of 2004.

Production is being moved to Maytag plants in Amana, Iowa, and Reynosa, Mexico.

Mangieri says he will have a news conference tomorrow morning about his plans to file the lawsuit against Maytag, which is based in Newton, Iowa.
