In case you missed it and, it’s very possible that you did, the beleaugered WEEE Regulations passed into law a couple of days ago. The regulations are an attempt at ensuring manufacturers pick up the tab for the disposal of their products at the end of their life, thus minimising the environmental impact.
However, like many things, it’s not just that simple.
Several months ago I wrote an article on the WEEE Directive but, at the time, decided against publishing it as it was personal comment, but I have now published it and you can read it from this link
I decided to publish it as, on reading the general comments in trade publications and online press, it would appear that opinion seems to be much the same as my own. Nobody seems to care about WEEE at all or the impact, they only care about how much it’s going to cost them.
On top of which the only other point that seems noteworthy is that many people in affected areas of industry simply don’t seem to know, or much care about the directive.
One thing is for sure it would seem and that is that prices of appliances as well as any other electrical or electronic equipment, are almost guaranteed to rise due to it.
