Whirlpool has announced that it’ to exit the Turkish market and drop Hotpoint branded small appliances as well as raise prices due to increased costs.
CEO Marc Bitzer said demand was healthy in North America stating that, “We expect … continued recovery in the housing market, while perhaps at a slower pace, which would help ensure continued healthy demand for new appliances,”
Some of this is almost for sure due to increased raw material costs, steel primarily but on the Turkey and SDAs we reckon it’ probably a case of not enough interest or business to be bothering with it. So, it’s loss-making and needs to be culled.
Another factor is tariffs that probably Whirlpool USA would do them a favour, turns out wasn’t so good.
To counter that and a reported $300 million hole, prices have to go up.
