Whites are slowing but independent retailers are doing better. SALES of white goods in 2005 are expected to be down by around five per cent, in volume terms, as the industry comes to term with the tough trading conditions brought on by subdued consumer confidence and increasing competition between makers and retailers.
Andy Mackay, Electrolux’s UK brand and marketing director, told ERT Weekly that while it is too early to predict the full-year figures, he estimates that volume sales will be down by around five per cent year-on-year, a pattern similar to other sectors of the electrical market.
Mr Mackay said: “There is no doubt that the market has been tough, but anyone that says the market is in freefall is wrong.” (ERT Weekly)
