Chinese appliance maker Haier Group Co. plans to bolster its overseas manufacturing presence in the next few years — building a second factory in the U.S. state of South Carolina and looking to make acquisitions — in a push to better satisfy demands of consumers abroad.
As companies continue to pour billions of dollars of foreign direct investment into China each year, Haier — which in 2005 lost out in a race to buy U.S. appliance maker Maytag Corp.
