ParticipantHi found this website at work whilst desperately looking for advice on my problem so hopefully someone out there can help me.
We have a SAMSUNG SRL3928B which seems to be defrosting in the freezer (well the top draw i.e. ice cube tray, ice draw, small draw next to it and the larger draw below it) however the bottom two draws seem to be remaining frozen, also the fridge does not seem to be holding it’s temperature either, it seems to fluctuate between 4c and up to about 8c. I appreciate the weather has been extremely hot over the last couple of weeks but we did not have this problem in the summer of 2003 when it was just as hot. We do have the appliance in a cupboard but it has at least 6″ all around for air flow and there is some 2 feet (if not more) above it. I have followed some suggestions from people at work (yes believe it or not I work for an extended warranty co and I can’t get it fixed through our repairers 🙁 that we use). I was advised to check around the back etc for dust/ice none there, I have taken the lining out in the freezer to check the fan wasn’t iced up inside (it wasn’t) so I really am at a loss. if anyone can help I would really appreciate it.
Thank You
Keith

Hi
Try this first then it will give us a bit more to go on.
Turn the appliance off for 24 hours with both doors open.
Then restart the appliance as normal.
If the same fault reocurres within a few days or a week then it may well be a defrost problem.
where are you and we may well be able to sort an engineer for you.

Hi there
Followed the advice from Bryan, unfortunately this has not fixed the fault the digital display is flashing (this despite putting it onto SUPER FREEZE).
The freezer did start to freeze water into ice but this morning when I checked it I had little cubes of water in the ice cube trays and the fridge does not seem to be cooling at all. Looks like it may have to be a visit not what you expext on a 31/2 yr old appliance but heyho that’s the way it goes I guess. Unless anyone has any other suggestions.
I did forget to mention in my original post that the sides of the app are getting EXTREMELY hot, I know that this does happen due to the cooling defrost system, but the sides are almost to hot to touch which they have never been before. Any suggestions gratefully received.Keith

Hi
Ive just had a thought
its possible that the door has dropped and no longer actuating the light / fan switch.
try taping the light switch up as if the door is closed.

Hi there
Thanks for the suggestion, but I turned it off again last night for an hour or so then turned it back on, it then started cooling again in the fridge but again this morning I had little cubes of water instead of ice, so it seems to be working not working working not working etc.
Booked call online last night through Repairs@ so hopefully will get sorted but will keep you all posted.
Once again many thanks for all the tips and hints etc.

OK Now i’m stuck, DOMEX unfortunately don’t have an eng in the KT5 area, I’m also confused as we had some stuff in the freezer in the second draw down (below the ice tray and the draw next to it) that was not refreezing now it seems to be refreezing again. although the temperature indicator is still flashing (set for -18 for freezer and 4c for fridge only supposed to flash until it reaches set temp) has been flashing since I turned it back on yesterday. One thing I would say is it is obviously getting to at least Zero as it is freezing the water in the ice cube trays then defrosting at some point.
Now I am really confused is it working or not 😕 ???? agggghhh appliances the bane of our lives donchya think….So anymore ideas, hints tips help suggestions will be gratefully received…..Yours Hoping Someone Can Help

That sounds about right Keith for a US style fridge/freezer, they can be a right pain to repair at times 😉

OK Latest update eng came out on Wednesday, fridge freezer was not working (luckily) when he arrived. He cannot find the fault he knows it’s faulty but doesn’t know why. Now have senior eng coming out next week to have a look but I am not holding out much hope, I may have to end up borrowing my mates van and dumping it at Samsung HQ in Chertsey as it is now beginning to really p*** me off. Wondering if I kick off enough at Samsung whether they will do anything but I doubt it very much. Any ideas guys????
The eng that did come out has quoted me £250.00 IF it’s a regas job and he’s not sure that that is what’s wrong with it, I nearly fainted when he told me that, surely that can’t be right this is a top/bottom fridge freezer not a US style side by side….is this a rip off quote?Cheers
