It has been reported in India that Haier on Thursday announced its foray into the commercial refrigeration segment with the launch of deep freezers in the Indian market.

“The new range of deep freezers marks a step forward our endeavour to bring in innovative products to the Indian market,” said the Haier Appliances India Whole-time Director and COO, Mr Pranay Dhabhai.

The company plans to sale around 20,000 units in the first year of launch and is targeting a 12 per cent market share in the total domestic market for the product, which is around 1.5 lakhs unit per annum.

The deep freezers are mainly for use in commercial refrigeration and would be available in two variants–hard top opaque and glass top with sliding door. These freezers are available in the capacity range of 100 to 500 litres in a price range starting f rom Rs 12,000.

“The retail industry is on a boom and as it gets more and more organised the growth in demand from cold retail chains for the deep freezers are bound to increase in the near future,” Mr Dhabhai added.

These new freezer models are energy efficient and CFC free, therefore they cut-down on the electricity bills, he said. The company would initially import these products from its manufacturing unit located in middle-east and from the beginning of the next year, it would start local manufacturing of these units.

Haier is targeting around eight and 10 per cent market share in refrigerator and AC segment, respectively this year and is expecting a turnover of around Rs 550 crore in 2008
