ParticipantI went today to a good customer of mine to fix her washing machine. She happened to mention that she finally got her troublesome Rangemaster Duel Fuel fixed by a firm in Aldershot. She then went on to say that she was not best pleased at what she found after the bloke that fixed it had left! 🙁
My customer works from home and has an office upstairs. And when someone comes to fix things like the washing machine or gas stove, she lets us get on and goes back to her office upstairs. Now in this instant the guy wandered around the ground floor rooms putting his company stickers on all the appliances he (or his company) fix. Which involved going out of the kitchen, poking around in the utility room, slapping stickers on fridges, freezers, tumble dryer, dishwasher and washing machine. :rolls:
And if that wasn’t cheek enough? What really (really) upset my customer was that he was poking around in all the kitchen and utility cupboards in order to find the Gas Boiler and promptly stuck his sticker on the front of that! 😯
She felt almost as if her house had been burgled and spent quite a bit of time, after he left, trying to assertain if anything was missing from his extra terrestrial antics? And as far as she can figure, nothing has been touched or taken and fortunately for him and his company, she plans no further action. Other to ensure she won’t be requesting his services in future! 👿

If I were her, I`d be requesting he came back and removed all the stickers and residue from the appliances.
What a brass neck!!
I even hate it when I have to open someones cupboard next to the appliance to find the plug.

Think I am guilty of that as well. (obviously not the boiler) but certainly i have stickered washing machines and driers while I have been fixing a dishwasher which have no easy place to sticker. No complaints as yet!

Wouldnt do it, if it didnt work. It produces results and the “odd thank you I wouldnt have known who to call if you hadnt done that” remark.

Round this area, with very few exceptions the bods who put stickers on machines are almost always the crooks and cowboys ( sorry Mark). In fact if I saw a sticker from one individual on the machine I would walk away from the machine without opening my toolbox. When I worked for Hotpoint they issued us with stick on labels, the only problem was that they changed the phone number within days of printing the stickers so we had to write the new phone number on the sticker, how bloody professional did that look. :rolls:

I agree, that is just plain cheeky and shouldn’t be done.
This guy must be getting a bonus for using all his stickers 😆Although, we carry stickers containing our Logo and Tel No, they are professionally designed and printed and are no bigger than 3 first class stamps side by side. We ALWAYS offer to leave one for the customer, and they rarely ever object….

There is nothing to suggest in this thread that the stickers concerned are anything but small, profesional stickers. In my case they are always under doors or on the inner rims. This itself prompted a complaint once when a customer could not open the door to get our phone number off and, after repair, requested one for the front.
On occasions where there has not been a suitable place for a sticker, I sometimes offer one to the customer to stick it where they want to. They normally hurriedly stick it on wonky and right on the front in a most unprofessional manner.
come on someone back me up here, i know if most of you want repeat business you always use stickers. (Dont expect customer loyalty no matter how good a job and how fairly priced you are if they cannot get your phone number in a hurry on Monday morning when the washing machine wont start. That will be the moment the cowboy with the classifed add stating no call out charge will get the job.)
Can you buy a new car without the dealers sticker in the back window and on the number plate?
In any case, it is common practice to stick a test label on with test results written on to and this should also contain logo and phone number.July 7, 2007 at 7:48 am #220071clivejameson

I always offer the sticker first on repair jobs….you find out who the organised customers are because they usually take and stick it in their telephone diary right underneath where they’ve already handwritten our name and telephone number 😆 but very very rarely is the sticker refused.

I always remove others stickers when I repair a machine. I am not going to let them have the credit for my repairs.

Don’t like em stuck on the machine, never have. And whenever I buy a new car the first thing I do when I get home is remove all the dealers stickers from the windows.

I guess the genuine cowboy wouldnt want to leave his contact details in any way shape or form so the customer cannot call him back when it floods the first time she uses it after letting the sealant dry for 24 hours:lol:

The one in particular I mentioned would tell her to get lost. He once stopped an oil leak on a Hotpoint twin tub by stuffing a rag under the gearbox. No oil on floor for two weeks whilst it soaked into the rag then it was everywhere, he had of course charged her for a new gearbox. 😯

I’ve never tried these stickers at all although my old man did for a while many years ago. He was smart though to be fair to him, he had clear ones made so that they looked like a pukka manufacturer type thing. I’ve no idea how successful it was, I doubt it was ever properly tested.
But having mostly employed engineers getting them to do much of anything other than fix can be a bit of a chore, including paperwork correctly, let alone leave stickers. 😉
I have spoken to many that swear by them and others that swear by using fridge magnets as well. So, in the end, I guess it comes down to what suits you.
