    Hi all,

I found this forum tonight, and it seems to provide a wealth of information. So I’m hoping that one or more of you experts might be able to assist me with my dishwasher challenge. 😆

Our 6 year old Bosch SHV43A03GB/42 dishwasher has recently stopped cleaning properly, with part dirty cups at the top, and sometimes part dirty plates at the bottom. I’ve removed and carefully checked the spray arms for blockages and free movement, and they are fine.

Tonight, I discovered that the top sprayer arm wasn’t moving at all, but (I think) the bottom sprayer rotated OK – it certainly moves.

Looking through previous posts here suggest that there is a heater/switcher/motor mechanism buried deep within the machine that might be causing the trouble, and is also difficult / expensive to fix 🙁

Can anyone suggest if there are any other areas I could explore that might be causing the top sprayer not to move?

Or am I likely looking at getting a new machine?

    😥

    Fingers crossed ❗

If you use the search option and enter, Bosch AND dishwasher AND cleaning, in that exact format you will get all the reading you need.

This one Bosch not cleaning is a good place to start. 😉

    Another good one HERE

    Jim.

    Hi iadom,

    I wasn’t expect a reply so soon – don’t you sleep? 😆

Re: Bosch SHV43a – repair or replace?

OK, so after a good morning of cleaning the internal pipe work and various bits (although they were mostly clear, I’ve certainly learnt something about how it works!), I have re-tried the machine several times and this is what I’ve found:-

The filling is fine – continuous water flow, and the circulating pump seems to be running ok, but I have noticed that during a cycle only one of the spray arms appears to rotate (usually the bottom one).

Can anyone tell me how frequently the spray arms should alternate and rotate?

    Thanks

Have you cleaned the main feed pipe from the matrix* into the DW tank?

Is the heater working, and does your motor maintain a constant speed?

Ps. Obviously you know, but for other people reading this….

    Unplug the machine first! :zap:

Set the top spray arm to a pre determined position, say pointing directly at the door, put it on a prewash/rinse cycle and check if it has moved at the end.

If it hasn’t moved at all then the diverter valve may be faulty. 😥

    Try ‘metering tank’ 😉

I thought this model would be too old to have one?

Ps. Matrix sounds cooler. Like Anti-syphon device sounder cooler than U-shaped bit o’ plastic 😉

    Hi chaps,
The heater works OK, and the motor maintains constant speed.

But, it appears that only one sprayer moves (usually the bottom one).
Though just now when I tried it, the top sprayer moved, but not the bottom one 😕

Hopefully, if I’ve got the links right, these are pictures of the Matrix (and the Oracle 😉 )
(notice the plug in the picture – just for you Goatboy! )

Goatboy: Which pipe is the main feed to the DW from the Matrix – is it the second from the left in pictures?

iadom: Where is the diverter valve / control?

And why aren’t you guys watching the Rugby? 🙂

Th corrugated pipe that runs horizontally from just behind the red operating rod for the overfill goes to the central plastic part of the sump. It’s a push in fit at both ends, take out and clean,if it’s blocked the machine isn’t taking in enough water and the top spray arm is starved.
    Clean and try again.

    Rugbo?!?!?! :hmm:

Meh, I think this is a model with the diverter valve which Iadom mentioned above. This switches the feed between the top n bottom spray arm while the motor is running.

Guys, guys, after taking in all the facts, the fault is that the water point (a.k.a Diverter) has broken (kaputt, stuffed) here. And that a new HEATER UNIT is the only cure!….Engineer time by the way and well worth the fix cost…. 😉

Re: Bosch SHV43a – repair or replace?

spimps: unfortunately this pipe is absolutely clear – no blockages at all. And there is no shortage of water in the tub either – very good spray from the one arm thats working!

Today the DW had been run about five times without soap and those times only the bottom arm was turning. Yet just recently, when the top arm started rotating (and not the bottom 😥 ), the DW was full of soap suds – despite me earlier removing the upper arm assembly with the internal feed-pipe and thoroughly washing / rinsing it through…

    Clearly soap was hiding somewhere….

I’m wondering whether the soap had blocked something, and I’m not sure where to check? :hmm:

Goatboy: Is this diverter accessible in anyway so that I can check for blockages?

Martin: that was my fear yesterday – I am still hoping for something simpler! :rolls:

Thanks for all your help – much appreciated
