Typical first call Monday morning job……..Integrated washer, remove and replace door boot.

Disconnected machine, pulled it out, fitted new door boot, put it back in, run tested, job done….!! 🙂

Call customer to inspect, she says decor door not aligned up, claims it was OK before, insists I sort it or simply won’t pay me, my choice! 👿

I then spend the best part of 3/4hr pulling machine in and out, adjusting the feet, adjusting the decor door and tweaking the pipework behind, in and out, up and friggin’ down……could I get the decor door to line up with the other units? Not a bl**dy chance, in fact we’re only talking of a 5mm gap here, no big deal in the grand scheme of things….just 5mm between me and a customer willing to pay for my toil. I could get it to line up at the top but not at the bottom. I could get it to line up at the bottom but not at the top…….I readily accepted defeat……I simply could NOT do what she wanted….hands up, I give up lady!

So pi$$ed off was I even threatened at one point to refit the old door boot and just walk away. But with regret I conceded that a childish, idiotic solution and begged she accept the obvious ‘Mexican stand-off’ forced upon me by an unrelenting customer. That she pay me and let me go on the clear and obvious realisation that I had at the very least done my best, done my utmost to sort it for her. I, until this morning at least, did not realise how massive a problem just 5mm’s can be to a women. 5mm too much? or 5mm too little?………bu$$ered if I know, I really don’t, not sure I ever will? 👿

Anyway, she did pay me, almost an hour later than I ever imagined it would take. She even suggested we shake hands because she said “I would hate you to leave with any bad feelings about me!”. I shook her hand, smiled and left the way I came. :rolls:

Now forever scarred for the experience but have since written a new rule on my Word Processor regarding integrated appliances. Each one from now on reads and agrees to my terms and conditions, then signs to that effect before I even open my toolbox in future…….

I’m beginning to hate this lousy job, roll on my retirement, I’ve had enough of all this crap.! 😥

whenever i go to an intergrated appliance the customer is told over the phone that i repair appliances and am not a kitchen fitter as such they should remove said appliance themselves first or if i do it i will try and refit as best as i can but if not tough

For sometime now I have had a section in our t&cs specifically for intergrated machines in order to avoid the story Martin has outlined, poor man, seriously we have all had machines like this from bits of old ceramic tiles jacking up machines, cables and hoses routed round the cape horn etc etc. Be upfront with the customers when you first look at the installation and if necessary walk away if agreement cannot be made

If you think there’s going to be grief , as well as pointing things out to the customer , take a couple of snaps with a digital camera or phone before starting the job too . Its a good reference point

It could be worse Martin, you not married to her, imagine coming home to that. 😆

Today I was goin down a narrowish street in my van and just passed the house i need, so I stop, indicated to park, looked into my mirror and there is a car behind, not to close, so I go into reverse, waited 10 seconds, the car didn’t move backwards, nobody behind her, no drama for her to move.

The street is one way system and too narrow for her to pass me, so I decided to move backwards, hoping she’d engage brain and move back to allow me some space.

Not a fcuk chance she stays as still as a cock in a convent.

So I manage to get into the space, as she passes she decides to shout at me, called me a prick and drove off, lovely to which I placed my middle finger out the window, she stops and waves a gester with the wrist.

To which a placed my finger back at her, she then drove off shouting abuse. :rolls:

    Some people.

    I wouldn’t go that far Lee 😉

    Martin,
I know just where you are. Every day gets harder to motivate myself to go out of the front door by 10.00 until I get the first job done and paid for but the next morning just the same.
I know that as with other jobs I’ve had (London bus driver) one day that will be it. byeeeeseee bye.
Don’t think it’s too far off so check back in 4 years 8)

I don’t get caught out like this any more.

First task is to identify every chip dent and scratch in the area and door alignment issues before the toolbox is opened.

Damage claims can seriously affect your wealth 😈

You should make it OK. Dunno how long this Cameroni bloke is going to expect us young ‘uns to keep going. 👿 .
Still, maybe they can get some volunteers to take over our trade 😆 .

Customers are not all like that though. Some are so appreciative it can get embarrassing. Had a chap today who I’ve been going to for about 12 years, though that probably only equates to 5 or 6 jobs. He kept going on about how much he appreciates all the work I’ve done for him and his wife over the years.

dont get me wrong we have a big client base that use us again and again, lots of tea and biscuits and a lot of praise and thanks from them but…

in gereral people now aren’t so friendly , it tends to be the older generation and the existing clients that are nice
