ParticipantThe lights turned on machine made all the right noises, filled and drained when wash programme was set, but drum did not turn.
I was advised it was probably belt and due to lack of funds decided to try and see if i could fix problem myself.
I have taken off back of machine and the belt has slipped off, I have tried to get it back on, but there is not enough slack ….well it seems like belt is too small too fit, after doing more research i discovered there should be some sort of tension bolt on motor that i need to adjust?Help please, hand washing clothes is not something i enjoy!
Am I barking up wrong tree completely?Or maybe i should just pay some one to do the job, I would really prefer to do that, but scared of cost and getting ripped off 🙁
does anyone know what it should cost?November 6, 2011 at 3:43 pm #363102iadom

You are doing your research in the wrong places. :rolls:
Very few if any machines made in the last 10 years or more have had adjustable motor fixings or belts.
All modern belts are ‘stretchy’ belts, they are extremely tight to refit when new and even hard to get back on when the have stretched with age. If your drum is totally silent when spun with the belt off with no signs of play in the drum or pulley then you will need a new belt which will be even tighter than the one you are trying to refit.
If you do manage to get your old one back on it will come off again in no time at all.
Armed with the knowledge that the belts are super tight when new the only way to get them back on is with brute force, taking great care not to slip as the edges of the cabinet are razor sharp.

The correct belt for your machines is a C00082318, it does not appear to be in our online store but an e-mail to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk should get you sorted.
Due to the exact size of these belts you must get the correct part but be warned, it will be tighter and appear slightly smaller than the one you already have. A thick pair of gloves might help, put the belt over the motor pulley first then place the belt over the drum pulley and use the pulley to wind the belt onto it.

😀 Thanks for that info iadom,
I did use a bit of force and manage to get belt back on, but it did come off after a few spins.I guess that means i need a new belt, but

Drum is not totally silent when spun without belt….is that not good news? but it sounds exactly how its always sound before it stopped working ❗ oh boy, not sure if thats good or bad.

As long as is has not made any loud noises on spin you should be OK, it means that your drum bearings are not the reason the belt has come adrift, its purely down to a worn belt.
A new belt will have you up and running in no time. 8)
The machine has the awful, totally sealed drum so the bearings cannot be replaced anyway so you have little to lose by trying a belt.

no loud noises, more like a swooshing sound when i turn it around, very low noise.
Thanks alot for your help iadom, fingers crossed when i get a new belt the machine will be good to go
I have only had this machine for a couple of years, I really dont have money to replace or repair.

Sadly not the best machine on the market, far from it in fact. 😥
However it does sound as though a new belt will do the trick, a whooshing sound is OK, as long as there are no grinding, grating, grumbling noises. 😉

Unfortunately now since I have had a problem with machine I am understanding that indesit is not as good a brand as I thought it was 😥
The last two machines I had were not expensive machines, 1st one lasted about 10 years the 2nd one about 7 years.
The first one worked when washing clothes, but then stopped spinning, drum use to turn when washing clothes and would drain, but would not spin. I replaced it with 2nd machine that stopped working in exactly the same way that this machine now has, the drum stopped moving. So i decided to spend a bit more money to buy a decent machine 😥 I guess if I knew what I know now, I might have been able to try and save at least one of the machines or at least find one that wasn’t an indesit :rolls:

I got the new belt and put on the machine,
It did not stay on when i turned the drum around 🙁
there was a very slight low knocking noise, not constant when i first put the new belt on.
I have been playing with machine for about 30 mins and now no noise, but belt wont stay on.
I put it on and turn back wheel for about 2/3 mins and it eases itself off.Is it time for a new machine?

It does sound as though your bearings may have gone but if that is the case then the machine will have been very noisy for some weeks or even longer.
Is the pulley tight on the shaft? These pulleys are usually tight but I have heard of the odd one coming loose.
If you can get someone to put their hand inside the drum through the door and push up on the inner drum can you see any movement in the pulley?

Thats the one. 😀
It should spin round freely but there should be no movement away from or towards the back of the drum.

Pulley was loose when i orignally opened back of machine,
I tightened it, but then could not get belt on,
so thought i was doing something wrong, and loosened it back to how it was.I will tighten it, try the belt again and see how i get on….fingers crossed 🙂

Pulley nut should be as tight as it is possible to get it. 😉

thanks for info iadom,
I have tighten pulley wheel screw, put on belt,
Belt now stays on, though its not aligned, and the knocking sound is consistent, its coming from centre part of pulley wheel ?i have been turning wheel for 20 odd mins trying to get belt to come off, not happening and can’t unloosen screw
😕 oh dear, now what do i do?
