ParticipantHi there, I have a beko DSC85W 8kg bought in 2014. Everything is operating as it should apart from it not getting up to full temperature, only gets luke warm. I’ve cleaned the condenser, cleaned the filter, cleaned the vent duct and small sensor, checked behind the casing for the drum sensor for any fluff, removed the back cover and checked the fan runs, pressed the reset on the element (although it wasn’t tripped by the looks of it) but still no joy. Tried different settings, tried a machine reset by following a YouTube video of pressing and holding the buzzer cancel button at the same time I turn it on…all the lights lit up and the beeping sounded until I pressed start and the dryer starts up ok. Basically everything looks ok but just not enough heat. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Unfortunately I don’t have a multimeter to test connections, earthing etc etc but I have a smart meter read out which says it pulls 2.9kw when running. Thanks, Rob

are you sure you can see right through the condenser.
if its pulling that sort of power the heat must be going somewhere. if you watch the smart meter does the power go up and down or is it constant ?Dave

Hi there, yes I can see right through the condenser. I used the shower jet to remove all fluff and let it dry over night. It appears constant, hard to tell though as the meter updates every 5 seconds and the dryer stops spinning for a short period to then respin the other way and the meter sometimes reads it when it’s paused.

Ok, after watching the meter for some time now it appears to have dropped off to 280W – 320W and operates between these values. It initially started at 2.9kW but then drops off and doesn’t return to it. If I turn the dryer off and restart it it pulls the 2.9kw but then drops off to 280-320w after a very short while. It does this each time I restart it.

does it seem to end the programme quickly like it thinks the clothes are dry already ?
does it do the same on timed programmes ?

The program never ends. It stays in the drying part of the sequence and never gets to iron dry, just keeps running. Just tried it on 60min timer and it does the same thing with the initial 2.9kw dropping off to 280-320w.

from here on its gets technical. you would need a multi meter to measure the NTC (electronic thermostat) on the element to make sure its in the correct range

Ok, thanks for your help Dave. I’ll have to get one from somewhere and I’ll get back to you with the results. Thanks, Rob

heater NTC should be 19500 ohms at 25 degrees C

I finally got a tester today. I’ve measured the resistance of the sensor in the duct at the front and it reads around 13K ohms. I’ve measured the ones on the element in the back, the one on the left without the test button is reading 500ohms and the one with the reset is reading zero. That’s if I’ve done the test correct. I presume I just unplug the clips off the wings and measure across using the prongs on the tester to give a readout on the meter? Also, I’ve ran the dryer again and it doesn’t pull the usual spike of 2.9Kw to begin with then drops off, now it only pulls 280-320w. It’s like the element isn’t even kicking in at all, like it was previously the other day. There aren’t any clothes in it today tho so whether that makes a difference.

if the ntc at the back is only 500 ohm that’s well out of spec
as above should be
19500 ohms at 25 degrees CDave

Ok thanks Dave. Your help is much appreciated. I’ll get a new one and see if it solves the issue. Thanks, Rob

Hi Dave, just a quick update. The issue was exactly what you said it was. The element NTC was only reading 500 ohms so I changed it for a new one which read nearly 20K ohms and the dryer now works perfectly. Thanks for taking the time to help me out, it was much appreciated! Rob

Not sure Beko do a replaceable NTC for their dryer elements, its a complete heater replacement.

Could i ask where you purchased a new NTC (encased steel plug with plastic fitting) sensor? Espares do but their £13?
FWIW my front door sensor (DSC85W) has zero ohm reading but for sme reason ive had 4 new elements which work for about 50 runs then fail so is it ironic that the sensor has just failed and the latest element i have fitted is ok as it reads 9.7 ohms?
ambiguity reigns and i’m getting earache from the good wife now its wet n cold for 6month? :/ -
