AGA Foodservice Group PLC, the cooker and refrigeration operation, said it has has acquired Amana Commercial Microwaves from the Whirlpool Corp for 49.25 mln usd in cash.
AGA said the net assets being acquired are 5 mln usd.
Amana Commercial is based in the town of Amana, Iowa. It had sales of 43 mln usd in 2005 and operating profits of 4.7 mln usd. Amana Commercial is trading well in the current year, said AGA.
Amana Commercial makes microwaves customised for many leading US quick service and casual dining chains. Some of its lines are made for it in the Far East.
It is developing a new generation of combined microwaves and convection ovens for the growing accelerated cooking market. A quarter of Amana Commercial’s turnover is outside the US.
