About one thousand repairmen employed by Maytag before the appliance maker was bought by Whirlpool earlier this year are expected to begin working for a different repair company next year.

Whirlpool spokeswoman Jody Lau says most of them are expected to accept similar positions at an appliance repair joint venture owned by Whirlpool and Illinois-based retailer, Sears Holdings Corporation.

Whirlpool acquired Maytag on March 31st in a deal valued at about 1.79 billion dollars.

Two months later, Whirlpool announced that it was eliminating about 4500 jobs in southern Illinois, Arkansas and Iowa. It is currently unknown how many repair staff will be dropped in these changes.
