A further approximately 193 workers at Maytag’s laundry factory in Newton Iowa due to a lower demand for certain appliances produiced at the plant.
The company has acknowledged the layoffs but declined to release an exact number, saying it was dependent on scheduling issues. However, United Auto Workers Local 997 President Pat Teed confirmed the number Monday.
The Newton factory produces various models of washers and dryers including the Neptune and Atlantis ranges.
