Homeowners are becoming more sophisticated and demanding about, of all things, appliances. No longer are lowly “white goods” so colorless or lacking in sophistication.
“The kitchen has become the new family room,” said Tina Settecase, vice president and general manager for home appliances for Sears.
Chicago’s 2006 Kitchen and Bath Industry Show featured a variety of appliances that discriminating homeowners seek.
Sears also has introduced a Kenmore line of cookware.
The high-end appliance offerings are part of a surge in spending on appliances. Americans spent $26.2 billion on major appliances last year, up 21.6 percent from 2004, according to NPD Group, a market research firm headquartered in Port Washington, N.Y.
