We picked up on a local report this morning in the Lichfield Mercury about men posing as Hotpoint engineers to try to gain access to people’s homes in the area which is a concern.

The report indicates that two men were pretending to work for Hotpoint to gain access to elderly people’s homes to supposedly check an appliance.

None of the field technicians in the industry operate this way, they do not call at random with no warning.

Any repair company, even the big ones, will have specific appointments booked with you in advance before they call to your home and you will be given plenty of notice that they are coming.

“They looked official and had paperwork, however, on contacting Hotpoint they confirmed that the men did not work for them,” said a spokesman for Staffordshire Police.

“Please be on your guard and remind vulnerable neighbours, friends and family members never to allow unsolicited visitors into their home.”

While this time it appears that no harm was done people should be aware that Hotpoint or any other appliance repairer will call in that manner, ever.

If someone turns up at random at your door and you’ve not booked an appointment, refuse access.
