British Gas engineers are to start industrial on 2nd July 2007 at 00:01 Hrs
Following the a meeting today between ESD Management and TU Representatives today, the talks broke down. After the company refused to increase the 1st year pay offer, which has been rejected by its members 4 times. lastly by an industrial action ballot.
In the first instance all standby arrangements & overtime will be withdrawn.
Fact:
Gas offer 4.13% on basic pay (which is pensionable Pay on a final salary pension)
ESD offer 3.41% on basic pay (on a non final salary pay) + £88 guaranteed of an element of team reward – which means they are self financing there own pay offer.
Dont forget that Esd business contributed 2/3 of income to BGS.
Quite simply they choose to value the Gas engineers more than White Goods engineers and Electricians.
Although if you speak to most gas engineers they are very surprised that ESD engineers are paid less than themselves.
I would call upon all self employed whitegoods engineers whom were shafted by BGS and faced financial loss at the start of British Gas entering white goods market to refuse work if, as I am sure they will shaft you again.

British Gas Whitegoods & Electrical engineers (ESD) start industrial action on 09/07/07.
After a vote on industrial action was was accepted by ESD engineers, the action is now due to start from Monday 09/07/07 in a stumbling block over 07 pay talks.
In the first instance all standby arrangements & overtime will be withdrawn, which will be increased pending outcome of further meetings with management.
Ermmm.. Get your facfts right before posting them here! There was a 2 year deal also proposed at the meeting which I heard from a manager but fail to hearit from the TU. The TU stewards on our areas seem to have there own hidden agenda and spread malicious rumours that does not turn out to be true. Why is it that the deal was ok”d by the TU and then rejected when it was put to us? It”s alright for the TU to say we will remove standby and overtime but again you are thinking about yourselves. This is an open ended IA. Me and many others rely on this to pay our mortgages.
FACT:
Gas – has been going for a lot longer than ESD – they now do not offer Final Salary Pension
ESD offered total of 4.25% + Guaranteeing ?£88 of an element that was not guaranteed + this ?£88 is not coming out of Cash side of the bonus but more along the team event side of it.
ESD contribute to 10-13% of BGS”s profit. Since when did this become 2/3? Which school did you go to?
I was disappointed withthe gap between Gas and White goods but for a fact that I will now be leaving the Union since me and many other people think that our Stewards shafted us instead. There was a 2 year deal on the table which the stewards decided to reject on our behalf without even asking us. Me and Many others would have been happy with this but they let the fact that they were on pay deal talk get to their heads.
You sound like one of the Union stewards who has been spreading this kind of crap. Distorting what was said at the meeting t fit your own agenda. Believe me it hurts a lot more when you have been shafted by your own kind (as in you) instead.
