Italy-based appliance maker Candy Group started production at its new washing machine plant in Russia. In 2005, Candy purchased the Vesta plant in the Kirov Region for 15 million euros (approx. U.S. $19 million) to produce Vyatka washing machines.
Candy’s CEO Silvano Fumagalli said the facility would produce 140,000 washing machines a year. He said investment would almost triple to 7 million euros (approx. $8.8 million) in 2007 and output increase to 240,000 machines.
Candy has announced the launch of its brand new Grando Vita range of washing machines and washer dryers.
Reports in the Italian press seem to indicate that Candy is shaking up it’s brands in a bid to cut costs. The rationalisation is to put the Candy house in order and to unit the businesses of the appliance ones under the same roof and to eliminate duplications of structure.
