The inquest into the death of two men due to a defective tumble dryer resulting in a fire in October 2014 is to begin today.
We have reported on this tragic incident previously involving a Hotpoint TVM range tumble dryer that, according to reports, is suspected to have been caused by a faulty door switch however as far as we are aware this has yet to be proven.
The coroner in the case, North Wales Central assistant coroner David Lewis has requested more information from Hotpoint’s new owner, Whirlpool, on the number of TVM models made and sold, and of any instances reported to it of fire risks in their door switch assembly.
Also requested is the number of issues reported to Trading Standards concerning these tumble dryers with door related problems.
we must point out that, at this stage, we are in no way certain that the tumble dryer under investigation was the cause as so far as we can ascertain this has not yet been proven to be the cause of the tragedy.
