Ruters has reported that Electrolux, the world’s second-biggest home appliance manufacturer, said on Tuesday it had been ordered to pay $43.1 million in damages by a U.S. court.

Electrolux will make a provision of $13 million in the first quarter, media relations director Anders Edholm said.

The Arizona State Court ordered Electrolux to pay the money after an incident in April 2004 when two boys were seriously injured in a fire, allegedly caused by a gas oven made by the firm.

“We are confident that our product did not cause these injuries. We are exploring our legal options, but understand the jury’s sympathy for these children”, Edholm said.

Meanwhile in Australia Electrolux has come under fire for the recent dishwasher recall there which, we are told is related to the recent UK recall of dishwashers that we reported in our previous story

Apparently difficulty in reaching people that have bought the dishwashers is the problem with further incident of fires reported despite three attempts to reach customers. Electrolux has now enlisted the help of Australian authorities in an attempt to reach buyers of the affected machines and to avert any more incidents of fire.
