The Silence Amplified vacuum cleaner is based on the Electrolux UltraSilencer, an eco-friendly vacuum cleaner with a quiet motor.
It has an iPod dock and integrated speakers built in to the front of the vacuum cleaner, so that people can listen to music while they hoover the floor.
“Many people listen to music to help them focus on a task or to make an activity more enjoyable,” said Cecilia Gustavsson, product line manager for Electrolux. “We are now offering this opportunity when vacuuming. Our laboratory tests show that if you listen to music while cleaning, it will improve the cleaning performance, reduce the stress levels and give a general feeling of well-being.”

Although the Silence Amplified vacuum cleaner is only a concept, Electrolux joked that it could be persuaded to mass-produce the gadget if it were to receive a million pre-orders. The sound produced by the vacuum cleaner amounts to about 68 decibels, equivalent to the noise level of a normal conversation.
Electrolux said the near-silent operation was based on a patented technology, which optimised air flow and suction while at the same time lowering the noise. “Every unoptimised bend in a vacuum cleaner increases noise levels and lowers performance,” said Electrolux. “Using new insulation and a new way of suspending the motor has reduced the vibrations to a minimum.”
We doubt Steve Jobs is going to be running off to register iHoover anytime soon.
