Those who hate dust but love the planet may be excited to hear of two new vacuum cleaners set to hit shops this month.

Electrolux has unveiled its EnviroVac range of models, which it claims use up to 50 per cent less energy than their traditional counterparts but actually pick up 20 per cent more waste.

The company says it has used “clever design and thoughtful innovation” to reduce energy consumption but still maintain excellent cleaning performance and it is also offering two different variations in the newly-developed range.

Described as the vacuum cleaning equivalent of the energy-saving light bulb, the device is available as a bagless or bagged option. Both are upright models and come equipped with a combination dusting tool and upholstery brush.

The bagless EnviroVac – set to retail at £99.99 – has a three-in-one stretch hose and seven-metre cord, while the bagged version is priced at £69.99 with a floor type selector and six-metre cord.

Both will be available to buy from selected Tesco stores from this month.

In addition to a suitable warranty, homeowners can keep their vacuum cleaner in good working order by making sure no large or dangerous objects get stuck in the filter.
