The combined Electrolux unions have called a community forum in Orange to draw attention to what they say is the crises in jobs in the area.
A regional organiser with the Australian Workers Union, Anne Thompson, says they are worried about saving jobs for future generations.
She says a community forum is the first step in creating public awareness of the problem and then strategies can be planned.
Ms Thompson says there is a crises in manufacturing nationally, but it is harder in the bush.
“A lot of it’s to do with the problems associated with manufacturing in Australia as a whole, added to that our geographical problems manufacturing in a regional area, the added freight costs etc,” she said.
“We’d certainly like government to recognise that there are additional problems to manufacturing in the bush and they need to address those and give some assistance to those industries.”
The community forum will be held on Friday, June 18 at the ex-services club in Orange.
