ParticipantSide panel vibrating severely (and loudly) on spin. Machine is level and square, panel seems to be secure.
Any ideas?

Dealt with this one this evening.
R/h side panel (from front) was indeed rattling like crazy. I think that it was a resonance issue. The machine is level on a chipboard suspended floor, there is a certain amount of vibration transmitted, but hardly excessive.
Solution.
Self-adhesive bitumen sound deadening pads – 500 x 200mm.

Fitting one to the r/h panel was effective.

But, revealed that the l/h panel was doing it to a milder extent, so one went on that side as well.

This picture shows that the lid support bar had been chattering on the top of the r/h side panel and has worn through the paint. Bending the tongues inwards slightly ensured a snug fit on both sides.I was somewhat disappointed to note that when re-fitting the rear cover a number of screws had stripped their thread and would not fully re-tighten. I assume that this has happened in production as I am the first person to remove them.
The bitumen pads were bought from an automotive body panel supplier in Leeds; about Β£18 for a packet of 10, so hardly expensive. The rest will disappear into the Wolseley at the weekend.

Got one today doing this, customer has complained of noise in the past but nothing showed up on previous visits.
This time it had a decent load in and when it got to 1600rpm the noise was dreadful. If I had paid Β£800 I would have been as miffed as she is.
If I hold the sides the noise stops. RH side is worse than left.
Do you suggest I follow the solution used by Chris. This machine is on a solid, tiled floor so no vibration issues from floor.
Jim.
EDIT. Just having a look at the service video and I notice that the machine being stripped down has very thick padding on the insides of the cabinet, why doesn’t the ISE 10?
Also need to ask Chris if he just eased the side panels out slightly to fit his sheets or removed them completely. Unless Mark knows the answer. π

TBH this is the first two cases so far as I know so you’re in uncharted waters.
It was also the case that I suggested the bitumen thing when in Sweden but got told it didn’t need it. I also suggested it as an add-on but that got shot down too.
What I’d suggest is try it and see if it cures the problem as I bet it does.

Not sure where I could pick that up round here. also seem to remember the video shows the bottom edge of the sides need chiseling off. Surely Chris didn’t do this or is that just the dryer? π―
If Asko, Sweden thinks you don’t need it then why does the machine shown in the instruction video have extra thick dampening padding, :rolls:

Believe it or not Jim I don’t have all the answers. π
I have no idea why a ten year old video shows sound deadening and the new machines don’t have it.
I don’t understand why we’ve got two machines that do this and hundreds upon hundreds that don’t. In fact, the usual comment is that they are quiet.
What I do know is that you can get that stick on bitumen in any good motor factors, I use it to dampen fan noise on PC’s as well, very good at killing vibration and noise.

Wouldnt recomend removing the side panels unless you have too as, as you mentioned, they are lighlty spot welded which need chiselling off. Would imagine enough space with the top and back off to stick on the bitumen though.
Having said that, have never had a problem with mine at home or any on my patch so who knows. Some of the Asko and maytag ones do have the sound proofing fitted part number 8061986August 3, 2009 at 8:14 pm #280516iadom

I will search out some of those sheets. Will also try and video the machine to let you see/hear it. π
I suppose we could always try the Asko sound proofing if the sheets don’t cure it.

The only other thing I can think of is some sort of damage that’s whapped the panels or stressed them in some way perhaps breaking one or more of the spot welds.
Other than that I’m struggling to explain why it’s one or two out of hundreds. π

I simply took the rear panel off and reached in from there. Bit of patience and fiddling about getting the pads fully rubbed down into place, but quite straightforward really.
You need an automotive panels place – they keep all the prep and finishing stuff as well as just panels. Mine were special order – next day delivery.

Many years ago Hotpoint used to have these as a service spare called a dedshete (dead sheet) kit if I recall. Don’t know if they still have them though (even though they probably need them π ).

Struggling to source some locally ATM. The only motor factors of any size, BMS are useless. There is a dearth of small motor body repairers in this area, possibly legislated out of existence. :rolls: The one or two larger concerns are just not interested.
May have to place an order in the Leeds area. π π

Yes remember using it on the hotpoint microprofiles as the panels would vibrate like mad at 1400
connect out of stock not sure if hotpoint still supply?
