Hi, my trusty old AEG OKO_Lavamat 6100 digitronic washing machine was working fine until this morning when I noticed it wasn’t spinning properly – it did still spin but only for a few seconds at a time when it should have spun for several minutes, and the washing came out fairly wet. Other than that it goes through the programmes properly. Could the bearings have failed or might the carbon brushes be the problem? They needed replacing four years ago, but the drum didn’t spin at all then. Could anyone offer a suggestion as to what the problem might be and whether it is worth repairing please? Many thanks 🙂

Moderatorhave you tried it more than once as it could just be an unbalanced load

ParticipantI tried putting it on empty. It went through the complete programme, but only spun for a few seconds at each stage.

Moderatorwe are looking at a machine built 1994
if bearings had failed it would still spin but make lots of noise
you can check carbons but it may not be that
more likely a problem in the electronic control. Had a similar problem on old zanussi machine, which are now part of the same company, where the power supply to the electronics failed through age.The first sign of problems was an inability to spin. As it was gaining speed it would just slow down again and run slowly for a bit then try again. This repeated till the end of the programme
to determine if yours maybe the same i would need to see some clear pics of the components on the pcb

ParticipantWhat is the pcb?
It does sound rather “tinny” when it spins.

Moderatorprinted circuit board
in your case its the motor control board as the timer is mechanical
noise when spinning can be the drum or motor bearings. of its the motor a small amount of wd40 in the correct place helps a lot

ParticipantHow can I take pics of that?

Moderatoryou need to take the lid off the machine
find the board wihich is probably on the rear of the timer
take some clear pic
host them on another site like google pics
then post public link so i can see themif it was a newer machine i could probably find the pics i need, now i did work on a few of these but cant rememer enough of what it looks like to be helpful. also since AEG was taken over there is no service info just part lists and breakdowns
Dave
your should look like this

ParticipantThanks very much. It is too dark to see properly now, so I’ll do it first thing tomorrow morning.

Moderatorwhat you could try is taking the board off and put it back, then try it again
lost track of how many times bad connections cause problems and it has been on around 25 years

ParticipantOkay, I’ll try that. Thanks for your help 🙂

ParticipantThere were only two visible screws at the back holding the top on the machine. I undid them and although the top could be lifted up half a centimetre at the back, no matter what I did it wouldn’t come off. Is there a trick to removing it?

ParticipantIgnore that, have managed to remove the top now!

ParticipantNow the drum is not moving at all, it is completely stuck with no give at all. The machine still fills and empties though.
I have had problems attaching a pic of inside the top, but I don’t think it showed much anyway.
