ParticipantThe other day I went to an integrated washer dryer with blocks of wood underneath, could not move it at all as it was right up to the top of the worktop underneath, so had to rebook for another day as the customer had to call a company who cut the sealant and lifted the worktop so I could then pull out the Washer Dryer and unblock the condenser, wish it was just the filter blocked to save all this grief!

Think I have lost count of the number of times over the years that I have attended repairs only to find that the flooring has been laid up to the feet of the machine leaving no room to tilt or no adjustment to the feet.
I always just say give me a ring when you get it out and I will come back and repair it. A week or two later you return to see their beautiful, expensive oak or tiled floor destroyed.
Most of the time the flooring was laid by the kitchen company or professional flooring contractors that should know better.January 8, 2012 at 10:38 am #366820Criscold

Went to a very none understanding customer on Friday with a Bosch integrated dishwasher, fantastic kitchen that looked hand made but the only problem was that the dishwasher was fitted hard against the granite worktop, plinth integrated into the units so unable remove and the machine is mounted on the floor that is approx 3 inches lower than tiled kitchen floor. The socket that was mounted behind the water softener had burnt out, but i was unable to get to it due to the plumbing.

Kitchen fitters are a menace!!!
So of the things they do is just baffling, professionals? not so sure!!!!!January 9, 2012 at 10:36 am #366822cornwell40

At a call before Chrimble I was doing the usual huffing and puffing getting out a Bosch integrated dishwasher. Took ages to get the thing out as all the plumbing was twisted up behind plywood cabinet backs. Very neat but totally impractical. Everything siliconed in place and about 2mm clearance to get the machine out onto newly fitted tiles. I had just finished getting it out, muttering about kitchen fitters etc, when in walks Hubby from work…..wearing his work fleece with the logo of a well known (expensive) kitchen fitting company on it. My how we all laughed about his solid installation technique and his ‘once they’re in, they’re in’ references……..until they got the bill that is 😈

I miss Spain for this reason, every kitchen built since time began started off with the floor tiles fitted first up to all the walls, when you buy a new property the builder does not fit any units or appliances, only 2nd fix, the purchaser then installs an independent who has no choice but to fit onto the floor. Even new kitchens in old properties always have the floors fitted first, never had an integrated appliance be harder to remove than a free standing beyond the securing screws and decor door.

In all the years I have been in this trade I can safely say that out of all the installations I can count the best ones on both hands ! The rest are complete abortions mostly fitted by well know kitchen companies who seem to major on the modus operandi of welding up the car bonnet as it will never require service or repair.
As we all know we are Domestic Appliance Engineers not kitchen fitters and in the cases where the appliance cannot be removed within a reasonable timeframe and or without causing damage I just explain that its not for me to take the kitchen apart to get it out and to ring us when its out. I have seen so many kitchens damaged by either the customers trying to remove them or kitchen companies returning to remove them. Customers normally try to bamboozle you into taking responsibility for removal and refitting as you have taken on the repair but a lot of the time its far easier and cost effective to walk away.

The worse ones are when the husbands home, looks at you as if your a 8888head and starts to do it himself while your there, completely ignorant of the explanation you’ve given and thinks he’s better just because he’s older and spent his life in an office bossing people around (one client in particular)
Used to p888 me right off that.
Even more when he tries to use your tools to do it !!!!!
Had one after xmas, tenant waiting 2 weeks for a repair, was a favor for a mate, his rental, dragged his feet plus I was busy. Not spinning reported, found not draining, tenant unable to access filter as the fitter glued the kick board to the lino floor and cut kick board to touch the wall, placing the skirting board in front on both sides. Why glue to the floor when it cannot move until the skirting is removed is beyond me, Luckily I had permission to rip it off. Filter completely blocked.
Tenant had a right go at me for it, I enjoyed giving her a mouth full back, no recourse for my attitude and lack of professionalism. Enjoyed that one 🙂

Tenant had a go at you!
This is why I walk away from any hassle like this – and tell the customer to ring back when the Appliance is taken out.

She blamed the 2 week wait on me, cheeky cow, its xmas for 888s sake. I doubt she’d have spoiled her manicure doing it herself anyway, one of her comments was “it’s not my fault the filter gets blocked, the machine should be designed better” and the classic one liner “Ive been using washing machines for years, its never happened in any of my machines before”.
Had a laugh when she said she was going to complain to my company about my attitude, told her not to bother my boss has exactly the same attitude, in fact we look identical and when it comes to idiots we share the same beliefs, he’d only place her complaint in file 13, the bin.

nice one lee , good to give these idiots both barrels now and again ..
i had one recently – usual budget-tacky kitchen – black tiles white units , onn toaster from asda etc ..
diy leds in kickboard .. stoping me from repairing their high end kenwood slimline dishwasher ..
after spending 15-20 minutes trying to remove kick plate i decided to pack my stuff up – just at that mr know all comes home form work … and gives it the usual ohh you cant get it out – its been out before bla bla bla ,
he then decides to show his missus how manly he is and starts to pull at kick board it duly snaps in half the part he has hands on has dented side of fridge and all the leds dont work know as wires also snapped,
i didnt really say anything apart from call me when appliance is out and walked out …

What about snooty Customers then, had one week for last, Big House and Very Affluent, 2 Big Mercedes sitting on the driveway. Anyway get in the Kitchen to look at built in dishwasher, whilst I am starting to get tools out to start the removal, bombastic woman enters the Kitchen and starts shouting and abusing cleaner lady for no real reason other than being a complete Ars***** !
Bombastic Woman looks at me as if I am dirt then storms out the kitchen effing ! Mm Me thinks ? I then looks at the cleaner lady and I tell her I would not put up with that kind of attitude and that if she comes back and starts that with me i will put her right.
No sooner had I spoke the bombastic female returns to the kitchen and then starts verbally ordering me about and telling me whats, what.
Without saying a word I start packing the tools up and gathering my paperwork, What you doing she says ! I looked at her and said I am not employed by you and never will be, your help over there may have to put up with your shitty attitude but I don’t have to, So I don’t want your job get someone else to sort your problem out and I don;t mean the dishwasher Problem ! I am a professional tradesman and will not put up with you trying to treat me like one of your servants !
Well the woman stands there just looking at me, speechless she was, the cleaner lady had a real gleam in her eye and had probably wanted to tell the idiot where to go months back, Anyway out the door I go and into the Van, quick call to the office and explain the woman’s a cow and I will not be returning there anytime soon. After my call the woman had gathered her wits and was on the phone kicking off about me big time !!!!
She was then advised more or less the same as I told her and was sent off with a flea in her ear !
Lesson for the day, Never P*** off the dishwasher repairman when you have pots and pans to get washed !

Had the best one ever today.
The dishwasher had been screwed into both left and right wooden side panels from the middle of the dishwasher. 5 screws through top middle of the left hand panel into the adjacent cupboard and 2 screws through the top middle of the right panel into the wooden side panel. This could have only been done before the sink and work top were fitted. What was the fitter thinking…September 2, 2014 at 9:44 pm #366832admin

Mondays first job was a free standing dishwasher that had its lid removed because it did not fit under work top thick floor tiles laid in front, unable to pull out, even tried sawing feet off,, I told owner that she will have to get it out and I will come back and take a look at it then.
she starts kicking off at me ? that she will not wait weeks for me to call back,(only waited a day? from booking call in first place) and that I must call back straight away when she phones 👿my reply to this demand was, don’t bother phoning me then, packed up tools and walk off, don’t need this type WTF IS UP WITH PEOPLE 😯
