KeymasterI’m having a house built in Spain and have to equip the kitchen, utility room etc. For years in the UK I’ve been very happy with Neff and its derivants. However, Neff appliances in Spain are a lot dearer than their British equivalents and the local dealer is steering me towards Balay. In the UK, I’ve only ever seen this make sold at B&Q.
Spaniards seem to buy Spanish products and Balay is widely available, along with Fagor.
But are they any good ?

Yep, Balay and Fagor are the two most common manufacturers sold in Spain.
Given the choice, I’d go with the Fagor but there is little between them to be honest, both very similar in design and quality.
In my opinion, neither are of the same quality as Neff/Bosch though π

I have a Balay washing machine at home. I only use it 3 times a week, as I have no kids (get it?).
I think the quality is slightly above average, pretty good. But like Dave said, it’s not as good as the Neff/Bosch.
It’s always worth spending a little extra, for long-term reliablity. π

Balay is a fully owned subsidiary of Bosch. Their role in the UK is the “economy” models in the Bosch range.

Iβve not worked on a Balay appliance for about 7 years! I donβt think anyone is flogging them here. π―
Incidentally, the Spanish B/S/H/ wing has ask if a U.K. engineer would like to work over there for a wile, as they need and English speaker to service all the ex-patβs appliances!
I donβt know if anybody has taken them up.August 1, 2005 at 9:35 pm #143488superfix

When we were talking to the rep about these at the AMDEA show recently we were told that they ” come with the standard guarantee of two years subject to registration and the service would be carried out by BSH”
Is this still going to be the case?Don

KeymasterGracia for your thoughts everybody, I owe you all una cerveza.
Neff products in Spain offer a much smaller range than here, at a far higher price. I’m tempted to buy everthing here and ship it all over (current rates about Β£80 per cubic metre). Otherwise I’ll buy and ship just the Neff hob, which looks so much better than the Balay, with the appropriate wossnames for Butane gas, and get Balay or Fagor appliances there.
