ParticipantHi Guys, hope you can help.
I have a Whirlpool DWF 416. It was coming towards the end of it’s cycle when the breaker kept tripping. Through the process of elimination we realised it was the dishwasher.
Just in case it’s relevent – on opening the door, all the dishes were clean, but there was still some water there, I think it was draining.
I left it off for a while, then put it back on and it managed to complete it’s cycle but at the end, it started to beep incessantly. The start button flashes twice, rests, flashes twice repeatedly.
I have tried to hold the start button down to reset it, but this makes no difference. The only buttons that work are the on and off buttons, but all the time it’s beeping and flashing (twice).
Any ideas?
Sharon

I should really let Gegsy answer this, as he is the resident Arsenal fan. Still, in the spirit engendered by the prospect of Spurs giving them a damn good thrashing one day, I’ll answer the question……..
The base under the machine has flooded and the flood protection float switch has been activated. Machine should reset after the base has been drained.
The usual culprit is this:

Hi, thanks for your response.
Going to ask my husband to attempt to drain it. Any instructions on how to go about it?
Thanks, Sharon

Access is best achieved by removing the decor door, then the front lower panel. Power off, of course.

Hi, back again!!
Drained out the bottom tray as advised and put it through a short cycle. All worked fine (no beeping or flashing) until it drained, when it shorted the electricity and found that water had drained into the tray again.
Where do I go from here?
Many thanks,
Sharon

Observation and patience – find the leak. Torch helpful – especially observe the outlet hose from the circulation pump.

Did you fix the problem?
Mine is doing the same now. When you select a programe and press start the start light flashes and when you close the door the beeping starts. The wash cycle sounds like its starting but it doesnt do anything after that, it just beeps.
Even when you kick it it still beeps, i know that wont fix it but it makes me feel better. 😆June 19, 2007 at 12:06 am #203829Penguin45

Forget the beeps, countg the pattern of the flashes and report back.

The pattern of the flashes is 2 flashes then a break then 2 flashes and so on.

Flood protection system is activated, as per OP in this thread. Undertray is flooded – drain off and find leak.
Power off, please.

I striped the dishwasher down and switched it on to see where the leak was coming from and alot of water started splashing out underneeth down the back, i quickly switched it off and unplugged it and as i was cleaning up the water i noticed the recirculation pump you mentioned earlier on was leaking from the top pipe.
Do i have to buy a new pump just for the pipe or can i repair it?July 3, 2007 at 3:23 am #203833admin

Hi Izzy
It’ll be a complete pump assembly found here.

I have fixed the leak now and it worked for a while then started beeping again. When i opened the door it had soap bubbles in the bottom and had stopped the cycle. The red light was flashing 4 times this time.

Time-out fault on draining – it either isn’t draining (lots of water still in the tub) or it thinks it’s still full of water even though it has emptied. For the former, find the blockage (sink coupling, drain pump), for the latter look into the sump under the filters and find the black mesh cover at the three o’clock position. That is the level switch and has a bad habit of filling up with fatty deposits until it gets jammed in the full position. Hot water and a toothbrush may clear it – often it will need to be removed for better access. It’s a twist fit from underneath.
Power off, of course.

Will i have to take the machine back out to do this and tip it on its back or are the filters and sump accessible from inside?
Incidentally i tiped it on its back to take the pump off, would that have triggered the washer to think it is blocked? -
