ParticipantHello,
Our freezer has been slowly heating for a while now, until yesterday it just packed up.The fridge part remained cool, but I decoded to completely defrost it to see if that solved the issue.
Left it for 24 hours, plugged it back in, and now it keeps turning on and off while running up the fan only for a short time.
I’m assuming some kind of sensor fault, but I’ve had a look round the back and can’t make out any faulty connections.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Moderatorwhen you say turning on and off what do you mean
compressor? fans? control panel lights ?

ParticipantHi Dave,
It sounds like all the different systems are cycling on in sequence, and then the whole appliance turns off (the lights go out and there’s a click), and the cycle starts again.
It’s been doing it for a few hours now with no appreciable decrease in temperature.

some of the power supply use a capacitor to drop the voltage down to 12v or so. over time these loose values till the fault you have develops. in a nut shell its like a battery running out of power. you turn on the fridge till too many thing get turned on and the pcb runs out of power and crashes. then recovers and repeats
with a bit of luck a simple cheap fix but to advise more I would need pics of the components on the power board

ParticipantUnfortunately it won’t let me upload photos due to file size, but I think I can see the capacitor. Is it a 4 micro Fared capacitor, I can see it at the base of the bottom.

Moderatormanaged to find a pic of the rear of the board and if your is like this change component arrowed and should cure it
not sure of value but it looks like 0.68 uf
if you confirm this or post pic of this component I can prob find a supplier of the part. after that solder it in

ParticipantJust taken the panel out and can confirm that the pic you’ve got is correct, the capacitor is 0.68 uf.

ParticipantHi Dave,
Just to give you an update. Fitted the new capacitor (took about 5 mins), and now the fridge runs perfectly! The freezer is even freezing properly which is a bonus. Thank you for all your help, feels good to be able to fix your own stuff!

Moderatorglad you got it sorted
these caps fail over time so it probably been getting worse for a while
like most things fixing things is easy when you know how

ParticipantHi Dave,
There’s been a development! The fridge and freezer are still cooling fine, but now when the freezer door is closed the freezer compartment keeps making a loud rattling noise. Looking online this could be an issue with the evaporator fan motor. Maybe with the freezer being so cold again now it’s gotten iced up? Before I start taking the back panel of the freezer off to have a look does this sound like it could be the issue? Thanks for your help.

Moderatorthat’s not my area of expertise bit could a fan problem of some kind. worn bearing etc
if its ice build up in such a short time then I would start making sure the door is closing properly as I would suspect excess moisture is getting in

ParticipantI’ll have a look it does sound like the fan. Mind me asking where you source the parts from? Looking at places online it’s hard to filter things by model.
