Cheers guys, I had the same problem and the supplied manual was no help.
The black rubber non-return valve was the culprit for me too.
The power of google and the willingness of clever buggers to share their knowledge is an amazing tool these days 😀

This is a common fault on Hotpoint DF61 & DF62 , really bugged me until I sussed what was causing it. Are they the same machine?

Hi,
I’ve also got a Bosch dishwasher that isn’t draining but I don’t think it can be the same model. Unfortunately I’ve lost the manual and can’t see what model it is. It says Exxel on the front and has four wash cycles (pre-rinse, quick, economic and normal).
Anyway, I’ve tried to do some of the things suggested but mine does not appear to have a non-return valve or maybe I’m looking in the wrong place.
I’d be very grateful of any suggestions having just spent about two hours taking out whatever pieces I could, baling out the water, filling it up again, etc etc. There doesn’t seem to be a blockage in the drainage pipe as when I was putting the machine back into it’s place water came out of the drainage pipe (all over the kitchen floor).
Thanks for reading and thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Tabby,
The model reference will be etched into the top edge of the stainless steel door panel – it will help us to identify which machine you have and we can go from there. If it’s an old one, there may be a label along the side edge of the door panel, or at the top of the door opening on the main body of the machine. Please find it and we can give you some help.

Hi,
Thanks, have found the model number. It is SGS4442GB.

Tabby,
Your drain pump is accessed by removing the Torx headed screw in the centre of the pump cover.(Lowest point under drain filters) Remove cover and check if the impellor is clear and free to rotate (Beware of broken glass, use a torchlight for closer inspection 😉 )

Martin,
Thanks. Now I know that we don’t have any Torx screwdrivers in our toolbox – I’m presuming Torx headed screws are those ones with a star shape that always make me cross when I’m trying to get into something that the manufacturers want to keep me out of.
Anyway, can I buy one at Homebase or the like? If so, do you have any idea what size? Don’t really want to splash out on a whole set but will do if necessary as I’m sure it will be cheaper than calling an engineer out.
Thanks again,

T20 IIRC Tabby, you can buy a set quite cheaply at most DIY places these days and so useful for other things…… 😀

Thanks, Penguin45.
Will get some at lunchtime and then get my headtorch on tonight and see what I find.
Will let you know how it goes.

Wow – it worked.
Got a specialist tool set from Homebase, baled out the water with the help of my 3 and 1 year old sons (a bit messy), unscrewed it and found the culprit – a bit of string!
Then did a cycle and all the water drained happily away.
Thank you so much, this is a great resource.
Cheers,

Just wanted to post a thank you to this forum and in particular anyone who posted on this thread. I found it through google as my Bosch dishwasher had this problem, I read everything and got busy last night…
Firstly, I checked the waste pipes for blockages (I found the flexi hose from the dishwasher was transparent enough for a torch to shine through it) and removed the U bend at the sink end and cleaned it out. Normal sludge, nothing major.
Then I bailed out the water (a day or two old with bits in… yuk!) removed the food guard at the bottom of the dishwasher, and located the pump cover. One posidrive screwdriver bit later had it removed. Pump imepllor fine although a peppercorn had got stuck in that area.
Finally tried the non return valve, that little rubber flap. Came out with finger tips not pliers (strong nails of mine) and as the backwash entered the pump area, I found the culprit… a little white plastic screw cover about the same diameter as the valve flap had been stuck behind it! Must have been from my white kitchen units, dropped down the sink, got washed into the dishwasher soil pipe somehow and then worked its way down to the lowest point… the non-return valve.
Cycled the machine and it worked perfectly. Nice and shiny floor to it again, rather than waterlogged.
Thanks again, everyone.
😀
