KeymasterI have a Bosch Dishwasher which on some occasions is leaving water in the sump area of the Dishwasher. It has been doing this on and off for a few weeks but the last two days every time I have used it and on all three programmes. All filters, drainage and hoses are clear. Can you give me some idea what is causing this.

Steve,
Take a real close look at the sump, take off the pump cover (instructions in the user booklet) I suspect there’s something caught or restricting the pump outlet.
Careful!! If its broken glass you may not see it until it’s too late :lesson:

Martin,
I have removed the pump cover (the one which houses the propellor) and nothing is caught. Do you mean this cover or is there something else I can try.

No! That’s the cover I meant. Is the pump clear then and free to rotate ?(It is a permanant magnet impellor drive so it will appear a bit jurky as you rotate it)
If that is clear and it pumps out most of the water, then it is likely your drain out arrangement may be allowing water back into the machine (assuming of course the drain shares the sink outlet?)

Steve
There will always be some water left in the sump area (the drain pump needs a head of water to function) but the level should be below the food filter.
If its above that level at the end then having checked the pump, look where the drain hose goes….they are often connected directly to the kitchen sink waste pipe. Take a look inside the fitting to check its clear…often there is a cross piece fitted inside the waste fitting which can trap particles and block up. If you find one there grab it with long nose pliers and twist it out…its a carriage for a non return valve which is not required for you dishwasher (it has its own fitted inside)April 18, 2005 at 7:04 pm #131914admin

Hi
I have had some of these where the pump had gone weak, if after checks clive and martin mentioned I would consider the pump.
It is quite tricky to change, always unplug appliance before attempting any work :plug: If in any doubt of ability check repairs@ for your nearest Bosch engineer.Empty Pump P/no – 165261 @ £31.50 GBP

Hi,
I have tried Martin and Clive’s suggestions and it has not worked.
I have noted Greg’s comments about the pump but Bosch Engineers are few and far between on the Isle of Skye! How difficult is it to change?

Steve,
Try this for me……Disconnect the grey drain hose, stick the end of that hose into the sink OR a 2 gallon bucket, whichever. Then (with care now) pour say a gallon of water manually directly into the tub, shut the door and start the machine off!
Easily with 30 seconds ALL that water should have pumped out of the drain hose and into the sink or bucket?
Let me know the result 😀

….and if it doesn’t clear it all as Martin suggests then try it again but with the non-return valve removed (I have had one stick partially shut)
It is located adjacent to the impellor of the drain pump, made of black rubber and its top edge will be visible when you have the drain pump cover off…carefully take hold of the top of it with long nose pliers or stout tweezers and pull up and out.
If the machine drains ok then refit it, you’ll have cured the sticking problem by simply removing and refitting it.
Finally…if still no go then a new pump it will be!April 20, 2005 at 7:19 pm #131920admin

Martin, Clive,
Tried the gallon of water and ran machine hardly any water came out. Removed the non-return valve, added water and started the machine and within 30 seconds water came out of the waste pipe. Fitted valve back and am now running the machine on a cycle.
Hopefully this has cured the problem. I let you know if it doesn’t.
Much appreciate your advice.
