I think you guys are doing a great job, so I intended to give you a plug. Sounds ok, but not happy about it beingn a slim line. Do all you guys in the trade hate them? Rob

Ok the saga continues. Repair came about the pump (I was not there). Says pump is ok but not getting correct electrical signal. Says it will cost #190.00 to repair and that it is not worth it. Said appliances are made to last two years, so you should always buy cheap ones and then throw them away. GREAT! Any ideas folks, or do I just head off to the tip and save up for a new one? 😕 Rob

ParticipantHi Rob,
So your middle name isn’t “lucky” then? Couple of points here.
Firstly, if the machine indeed has a new module fitted and is configured correctly immediate failure is exceedingly unlikely. A conflab with your friend should produce an invoice and a claim against Bosch. You may have to play that a bit canny as you are a member of the public and some manufacturers can be a little “funny” in these situations!Secondly, in the Directories section there are several firms which repair electronic boards, at a sensible saving when compared with new prices.
Thirdly, the drain pump itself can show a circuit through it and still not run. The new type “magnetic” drain pumps wear their casings and become intermittent and erratic in action. This is a cheap and easy fix, Mr Conway will be able to advise you as to to cost for a 3 lug twist fit Askoll type pump.
However, if you are not confident, replacement may be your best option. A bit of patience and some phone calls will probably find you a reconditioned appliance with a years warranty (We do them but I can’t deliver from Leeds to Brighton or offer product support at that distance!).
Failing all else, as you said, saving time. They really are terrible things – once you’ve had one you can’t go back to washing up!
Good luck,

Is this the same guy you called out, now diagnosing the ‘new’ Module as faulty I wonder ❓ 😕

The genuine Bosch pump is 483054 £41.32 inc VAT and postage, I’m not sure if one of the “universal” multiple lug twist fit askoll will fit (perhaps someone could advice), if it will, they can be supplied at around the £20 mark.

Sadly not Dave, it has to be a genuine Bosch pump 🙁 (special fitting)

HI guys,
I am away from home for a bit hence the delay in replying. first off thanks for all your support you are a great bunch. The guy that came (and I was not there), was from a different company since I thought the first one had run a mile. He said that the pump was ok but that it was not getting the message to work. he said only Bosch could repair it and that a call out and fix by them would be at least #190, and then came out with all the throw away stuff etc. Then last night the first chap called me to say he had found some codes. i told him that bit was now ok but the pump had given up the chost. he has offerd to come and have a look but I dont know if I should keep spending on it (in trouble at home now). The whole thing all seems odd when you take account that the machine is only about two years old now and that Bosch are supposed to be one of the better brands. perghaps i should write them an angry of Brighton letter. So any ideas, shall I join the throw away society. Rob

Robert,
It all sounds very suspicious indeed the ‘Tale of Two Repairmen’ and their dubiuos dignoses. It is true what you commented on previously, in that few of us in the trade like repairing ‘slimlines’ due to the difficult access to most functional components. It is more than involved just getting to the drain pump as an example, unlike their conventional ‘full sized’ cousins 🙁
But I believe in this case the second guy has totally misdiagnosed the fault. Furthermore has ‘spun you a yarn’ that it will cost £190 to fix. Therefore anyone in their right mind would not proceed with such an expense, this indeed is after all what ‘guy number 2’ is hoping for. He has no diddly-squat idea what is wrong in fact.
I wonder if you have any of this information in black and white from him? I doubt it, but it then would be worth calling out BSH Appliance Care Ltd, and get them to fix it. I bet it is a blocked pump after all and the guy had no idea how to get at it (IMHO) 🙄
In spite of it being a slimline it still is worth a go and should be good for at least 5 years daily useage 😉

Just for your benefit Rob, even if the main pcb has failed the list price from Bosch is £69.56 plus VAT, so even with a bit of postage added the part would not be more than £90.00 inc VAT.
Bit steep £100 labour charge methinks 😯

All SRS / SGS ( 45 / 60cm ) range dishwaher pump impellors are accessable through a small cover held in place by a TX20 Torx bit ( except plastic based 60cm ). The cover is located in the sump, remove the fine & coarse filters and the screw is located at the “7” oclock position ( not ten ).
The type of pump used is very common ( askol / Copreci ) and very rarely require changing, bet you any money it’s a chicken bone/piece of glass etc etc & does not require replacing. If you still have the instruction book it will show you how to remove the impellor cover.
As for the module, all “Original” parts from Bosch contain coding instructions for the engineer, so whoever fitted the module either threw it away by accident or ignored it.
Always be wary of independants, they talk a good game but will ultimately steer you back to the manufacturer if they A: haven’t a clue or B: have a clue but will have to spend money on ordering a part they are not sure is required.

Ok guys, the sarga ends. The very nice martin from Appliance Repairs (01273 415661), arrived and within a few minutes all was fixed, it would seem we had a blockage. So Thank you Mr cow boy from last week I did not need to spend £190 or create yet more land fill. Thanks again every one for all the help and support. By the way I have told my man from today to join up. Best wishes and enjoy the rest of the summer. Rob
