BOSCH WAE2416S knocking whilst spinning

Hi I bought the below machine from comet

WAE2146S

The machine arrived on thursday the 17th may upon using the first load the machine is emitting a knocking noise whilst spinning, at first i thought it was a unbalanced load, the whole machine vibrates whilst spinning and depending on the RPM sometimes its worse,

We tryed again with another load this time crammed more in the machine to make sure it was a full load and this time the knocking noise is even worse,

Anyone got any advice ive removed all the 4 transit bolts etc so its not that its a brand new machine should i call comet or bosch i understand bosch will send a engineer out and comet i have the right to reject it under the faulty goods act and demand a swap like for like.

When you removed the four transit bolts did you ensure that the hard plastic sleeves were removed as well? On the subject of packing Bosch on some models now are adding a “lump” of polystyrene on the bottom tray of packaging which does`nt always come away easily. Tip the machine back and have a look up under. Make sure machine is level both front to back and side to side. Failing that take a read here it`s good stuff . If all else fails then yes I would contact Comet first as your`e contract is with them under the sale of goods act.

The noise might actually be from the suspension system in the Bosch machine. My mother’s machine makes a similar noise. I think it is down to two factors:

1. The Bosch machine has a relatively poor pre-spin distribution technique; I’ve seen far better on some competitor machines. A load of towels will 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the time, bunch up, causing an out-of-balance load, with excessive vibration and noise. Try mixing the load with smaller articles: shirts, underwear, etc.

2. The floor could be to blame. If the machine is on a suspended wooden floor the machine will wobble on the spin cycle. A bouncy wooden floor will amplify any vibration from the machine.

There was a batch of budget Bosch recently where the concrete weights were barely tightened to the drum.

All 4 of the bolts and outer plastic sleeves have been removed, im moving to a new build house in 11 days so i havent placed the caps over the holes as ill be attaching the transit bolts again, ill check under the machine later im pretty sure the comet guys unpacked and removed everything, on the topic of level our last machine was a Servis to which we had for 5 years and never had any vibration or knocking so i dont think the level is off ill check with a spirit level later when im home (working right now hehe) ive read that Good Stuff information its usefull thankyou if all the above fails ive already contacted comet im awaiting call back to arrange replacement as im covered by 7 day return of goods act as it was bought from internet.

Point taken ill try a load of darks later which wont have any towels in the machine, whilst the machine was in mid spin i stopped the cycle and looked in the machine at how the washing was placed around the drum and i didnt notice any bunching up of towels etc,
Our kitchen has a solid concrete floor with vinal laid underneath so theres no sagging of a suspeneded floor,
thanks for your advice ill try the darks later see if it still vibrates whilst spinning.

This is also uselfull information ill unplug the machine if all else fails and take the lid and check the tightness of the block on the top if its lose, in your opinion should i tighten it or call comet and get it swapped or call bosch who will send a engineer cheers for your reply

Thanks for all the replys all ill go home and check the machine, loaded with your advice hopefully resolve our knocking and vibration issue

One thing though the feet on our servis machine were a softer round rubber design, I noticed whilst the bosch was being carried into our house that the feet on the bosch were hexagon and harder so perhaps its not quite level ill check later

oh, and your 7-day return of goods statement?
yep, if u take it back, unopened and unused

further to that, you have to have a service call to establish fault

if its faulty, yes, it can be exchanged… if it aint

well, u’ll be charged

and before u start quoting things, i work for comet.. what im saying is fact, just be carefull how you approach the engineer

Wowww nice to meet you too helo_75 thanks for the warm welcome i only came for some advice

All tested and confirmed the machine is not right ive checked underneath the machine for any remaining packing theres nothing, All 4 transit bolts + spacers were removed,
Ive also checked the machine its level and doesnt wobble or anything its firm, ive ran another load tonight this time mixed darks (No Towels) and its the same as before its seriously bad something at the top of the machine is knocking and it gets louder when the machine climbs to its top RPM.

try it again and when it starts knocking , try putting pressure on the lid . I’ve had one where the lid wasn’t seated properly and the lid would start knocking as the spin hit its higher speed . In the end a small rubber washer placed on the lid fixing lug stopped the noise

Could it be a cable (mechanical or electrical), slapping against the tub or shell casing?

(I’ve come across a Hoover Quattro from 2000, where the mechanical Bowden cable for the belt-pecker/door interlock assembly slapped against the outer casing, creating quite a racket on spin. The sponge-foam spacer/damper had slipped further along the cable, allowing the cable to flex excessively).

note after the machine spins down and spins up again the knocking isnt as bad as the washing isnt as wet
