ParticipantHi, I have a Britannia electric range. It has a double oven and full electric hob (not joints). Recently the main oven has suddenly cut out whilst cooking food. The clock / timer has also stopped. After about 10 to 15 mins it comes back on again. During this time the hob and secondary oven still work, no issues with them. I phoned Britannia and they said it was likely to be the clock unit? And that an engineer call out was £260 plus the parts…. I was just wondering if anyone thought the clock unit would cause this? Also I can get a replacement one for about 80quid. How easy would it be to replace? I can’t find anything on the internet about these types of ovens.

Moderatorsounds more like a thermal cutout activating and coming back on when things cool down
but not done a lot of these and have no access to spares breakdown

KeymasterFirst things first.
What machine is it, how you find that out is here:
https://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/help/spare-parts/finding-parts/4349-britannia-spare-parts
Secondly, it can be the clock but as Dave rightly alludes too, if it’s overheating so, thermostat, cut out etc need to be tested.
Thirdly, if you pay those guys that money to come out then spank you up on a clock as well then honestly, you’ve more money than sense to be blunt as that’s a rip off.
Many of the independent repairers would do the same for a huge amount less. Spares you can get from UKW (here) monumentally cheaper for the exact same items.

ParticipantHaha, yeah. Wasn’t going to pay them that cash, was hoping to do the clock myself to be honest.
it’s a Britannia SI-E10T-L-S. serial number is 70401026.
would a thermostat cut out knock the clock screen totally off? The digital screen goes blank. I know that the oven can’t come on if the clock isn’t set. So if the clock goes off then I guess the oven would stop. I had a quick go at taking the front off last night but looks like I have to take the whole top off the range. It is 1 whole top with all the rings, seems overly convoluted to just take off the front panel!
thanks for your help!

Moderatora lot of cut out switch off the power to clock as well
so if either clock or cut out was fault then same symptoms are possible
also be nice if it was a faulty cut out as its a lot easier to get at, unless the cutout is doing its job, in which case you need to find out why things are getting too hot

KeymasterIt’s the ART number that I need to find any parts for you, that’s extremely important to get and be correct. Per that article I directed you to, the model is only used for sales, not service or parts.

ParticipantSimilar problem. Need to replace the timer in a 100cm Electric. It’s a SIE10TLS/K240100S. Can’t find a serial number. How do I take front panel off? There are two screws on the underside of the panel, but can’t see how top of panel is secured.

KeymasterHonestly, no ART number etc, I nor anyone else will be able to help.
The model is used solely for sales, nothing else. Service and parts is all about that ART so you need to find the rating plate or nobody can help.

ParticipantFound the label and, although it looks similar to the one in your article, no ART. Have attached pic.

KeymasterSorry that’s too small to make out but it is there, I can see it. 😉
It’s in the boxes beside the CE thing etc to the left.

ParticipantOk- in the boxes around CE… to the left, just “Made in Italy”. To the right of CE it says Nr 2004. Below CE it has VAC 230 kw16.2 Hz50. Further to the right it has a box with The model details (SI-E107-L-S) and 04130636 underneath. Next box CAT II 2H3+ G20 G30 G31, under that it says GAS and under that : P mbar 20 28 37 0

ParticipantThanks. Any clues (anyone) on how to get front panel off?! Looks like a straightforward part to replace- once I can get at it!

KeymasterHob deck up to get to it, not from the front at all. 😉
