We rent one from Adelante
Costs about £15 per month plus we pay 17p for each debit card and 1.7{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} for credit cards but it’s so much easier – avoids all the “Oh, I haven’t got the money” and means you can get money off landlords easily. I also think we get more new machine sales off it – with the machine, if you BER it you can say, “But if it helps I have a new Bosch in the back of the van, £xxx and you can pay using your card if you like”.
Plus Adelante are very good – I accidentally dropped a washer dryer on mine and cracked the screen – Adelante swapped it free of charge for a new one sent special delivery next day.
Only once had a problem with reception, which was in the middle of nowhere, but if this happens you just call them on your mobile and get a code over the phone to type into the machine. Never normally a problem for me though – mine is on O2 (although you can use Vodaphone as well) and I have lots of jobs out in the countryside.

Very interesting info there Chris. In fact it so happens that on Monday afternoon I have a guy from Santander coming to see me about switching my current GPRS Terminal provider. I’m paying way more than you on monthly rent to my provider plus paying far more than 17p and 1.7{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} to Streamline. 👿
Therefore could I ask you to email (or pm) more detailed info (in confidence of course) to confirm those figures you quote no doubt based on the length of contract? I can then hit the man from Santander with some facts of my own, if you catch my drift? Any help would be most welcomed….thanks. 😀

hi martin
we use streamline for card processing
we have 2 mobile units which cost me £15.00 pm each
our rates are very low as we process about £30,000 per month
but our mobile units have all 4 network cards in them beacuse we have so many dead area,s in hampshire (nothing works in midhurst) but its worth giving them a callMarch 19, 2011 at 7:46 pm #347443johnnyj

My thanks to Peter and Chris for giving me something to work with in regard to terminal costs/charges etc. The man from Santander came and went this afternoon and I concluded to stick with my current provider owing to the more preferential contract terms I have with them.
It appears these companies are realising the potential new business opportunity that lays open to them from within the service industry. More and more ‘one man bands’ these days are arming themselves with mobile card terminals laying the market wide open to competition from the many a various merchant services that have sprung up from nowhere of late.
So, in my case, it ain’t broke so I ain’t gonna mend it. 8)

Has anyone on here given it a try?

I read his post to mean he rents a handheld unit rather than using his mobile with their app / software loaded.
Perhaps he could clarify?

As this subject keeps coming up and, some WTA members don’t read the WTA forums… 😉
They’ve got a deal on terminals and charges.
Terminal rental is more than mentioned here but it seems to depend on terminals and the rates. On that note, the rates are lower than mentioned above and fixed for five years. Also, there’s no minimum use on the deal.
More here: http://www.whitegoodstradeassociation.o … minal-deal
WTA thread here: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=67106
I have asked about making the deal freely available to anyone here, dunno what the TA guys are going to do on that front yet as they’ve been a bit busy this week with the Swift show being on, among other things.

just like to add I have recently been updated to a multi sim version and connection issues have all but vanished as it will connect to the strongest available signal, (interestingly its almost always on 02 which is good info for those looking for a reliable mobile phone network) unlike my old terminal which only used vodaphone and was prety unreliable. SO for anyone going for one of these for the first time, look out for a multi sim terminal option.

Excuse. me, but I haven’t yet checked out the WTA deal. But does it involve commiting to a 5 year contract? 2
