ParticipantHello to everyone on this forum! I had no idea that such a resource existed on the internet for white good!! 🙂
I have a slight problem with our Diplomat 620 select oven (AYH36) – it first manifested iteself on Christmas day (of all days!!!) around 3 hours into the cooking marathon! Basically, the oven stopped heating… and the inside was barely luke warm when we opended the door…. (we had to finish the turkey off at a friends house in real emergency fashion!!)
At that stage we thought that it had just over heated as my better half – (not knowing any better bless her) had actually put one tray on the very bottom of the oven (not on a rack – on the actual bottom of the oven) – so we though that it may have overheated part of it and it had shut down. The grill, the fan, lights timers etc.. worked fine – just that the oven wouldn’t heat.
The next day it was working fine – so we thought it must have been a temporary thing…. sadly not.
On Monday – the oven decided to do the same thing – not get up to temperature or heat at all – and this time nothing had been placed on the bottom of the oven since the Christams day incident. Again, the fan works (blows cold air), the grill works – everything seems to be fine except the oven actually heating up.
Could anyone advise what this could be? Could it be the heater element? Or something else? Any advice would be appreciated – and also a pointer in the right direct as to which element (or other part) to order and from where.
Many thanks in advance!
Raf 🙂

Sounds like the fan oven element is at fault, although it’s strange that it started working again.
If you can get us the full model number (AHY3601, AHY3640 etc.) then we should be able to help a little more.

ParticipantI’m quite positive it’s AHY3601 but will check in an hour when I get home.
When you say “fan oven element” – how many elements do these ovens have (excluding grill)?
Thanks

I’ve had a look at the oven, but can’t seem to find anywhere where a may be showing the exact model number.
It’s a full electric oven and positive its the AHY3601…
Cheers

The model number is usually around the oven door area or on the right hand side of the oven, which means you’ll have to pull it out of its housing slightly.

That being the case it’s this element but if it’s not the correct model number that may be wrong.
There are at least two, one fan one grill in a fan oven. Sometimes a lower one as well if it’s multi-function.

ParticipantThank you gents – I’ll see if there is an easy way to slide the oven out of the fitted unit and check on the side.
Kwatt – the oven controls offer the option to cook (using the oven, not grill) on the top, bottom or both of the oven areas. That’s what makes me think that there may be more than one element. However – the oven doesn’t heat up on any of these settings at all – Making me think there is only one element….. and it uses some kind of voodoo to only heat up specific areas of the oven (i.e top or bottom…)

ParticipantHi chap – before I go ordering the element is there anything I can check to make sure that it is in fact the element and not anything else? Could it be anything else or some other part?
Cheers

A resistance check with a test meter would reveal whether or not it is working.

hi … just to throw a spanner into the works… so to speak! ha ha… but it definately check the element first with a resistance test… i doubt the element will be faulty if it occassionally comes on… it sounds ,more like a dodgy thermal cut-out or something? good luck!

ParticipantHi Guys
I’ve had a chance to get the oven out and check the ACTUAL model number and it is AHY3610 in which case the above link to the element would fit… ?
I don’t have access to a multimeter – but since the oven has completely died now, I guess it would be safe to presume it is the element….?
How much would a thermal cutout be and which one would it be if I needed to get it?
Many thanks again everyone!

Fan oven listed above is the correct one for for your appliance. The safety cut-out if required is p/no OTHERMP135A – it’s not in the shop@ section, so you’ll have to email spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk for price and ordering.
I would seriously advise you to get some sort of basic test meter. Unless the element is visibly damaged, you will be guessing as to the nature of the fault – this can get to be an expensive way of repairing an appliance!

ParticipantRighto – I got a new element and fitted it this morning – and no joy… 🙁 oven still doesn’t heat up.
Maybe I should just get a new oven……. ?
So I’ve got a new AHY3610 element for sale if anyone wants one… £15 inc postage! 🙂

KeymasterHi Rafkoo,
Did you check the original one before you bought a new one as advised above and, if so, was it open circuit?

ParticipantSorry chaps – I did not get a chance to do that as advised – I understand that it would have been the correct proceedure – so I apologise. Even though I can change the cams in an engine, I’m a bit lost when it comes to electricity and even working a multimeter….
