ParticipantJust wanted to share that it is pretty much buyer’s beware if you are entering into an agreement on purchasing second hand/refurbished units in full working order at trade price to sell on.
The set up looks good and ticked every boxes with the exception that you don’t have to worry about refurbishing the units yourself, just buy off them and sell it on. The warranty ties with them for 3 months and you can choose to add to make your business looks good. Sounds good eh?
I purchased three refurbished washers from them and installed the units at the customer’s house who was so delighted at the shiny appliance. If I hadn’t tested it before finishing the job, I would not have known there was summat wrong with it. (It was all PAT tested and passed with flying colours but you don’t know if it is in full working order other than assurances from the supplier until it was plugged in at a customer’s house). Twice I have embarrassed myself over two faulty machines at the same customer’s house, one with dodgy motor which I exchanged for another which flooded the kitchen floor! Mercifully, I got a full refund on both appliances but my reputation with the customer is another matter. The third appliance have not yet been used so I am hoping third time lucky.
I question the engineer’s ability to refurbish the machines as I cannot believe I put up with two faulty units. It seems to me it wasn’t fully tested. I would have thought you need to run the machine through the cycle to confirm it is in full working order (well that what I would do but if you have 20 units to refurb then it’s unrealistic I suppose but still there is a procedure to test it fully that only takes 15 mins). I carried out the procedure to test it fully before signing the machine over to the customer, if the engineer at the warehouse did that then he would have saved me the trips and embarrassment but clearly he didn’t!
Needless to say that I have severed the relationship with this supplier. So I hope you will heed the warning.

Hows about you divulge who you got them from so that the rest of us can steer clear – otherwise what was the point of the statement. 😕

World of Recycling based near Wednesbury, 2 miles from Ikea off M6 Junction 9. I was asked to spread the word to encourage more of you to buy but my experiences was not that good and I do question their testing procedures. I made 60 miles round trip and it costing me a lot in diesel because of the two faulty machines which were supposedly to have passed the functional tests. Perhaps I got the bad batch, so like I said buyers beware. You may get better luck than I do.
The guy there was very apologetic and tried to resolve it but it didn’t really restore my confidence because of my reputation with my customer who just had their kitchen flooded. Don’t let that put you off! They have tons of Hotpoint washers for you to sell or rent out. Take your choice.

Thanks.
I got stung myself a few years ago,
A guy in Aberyswyth who trades as JAYS DOMESTICS
I think he also operates in TELFORD
Some of the ‘Reconditioned’ machines we got off him had their plugs wired incorrectly, thats how bad it was !December 7, 2012 at 6:59 pm #385772Martin

The trade knows the very name Hotpoint spells caution. 😈

Rather tricky to do a quick test before installing the machine at the customer’s house. In hindsight I think i could have insisted to test it at the warehouse but it’s a busy place. Like I said my reputation, I rather not visit again.
As for FD number, I wouldn’t know as basically I bought the machine and installed it, if it wasn’t for the motor fault and water leak I would have written down the model and FD number.
The motor fault was the inverter motor for one of those high end Bosch washer made in Germany. The one you have to program the time in (?)
The water leak one is the basic Bosch model with 1200 spin. Sorry couldn’t help more.

Today I was asked by a customer of mine wanting to buy a reconditioned washing machine. It didn’t take me long to persuade her to plump for a shiny brand new silver washer rather than risking my reputation to supply her a recon unit given my recent experiences. I admit I did miss the huge profit margin on the recon unit but reputation matters more than profits.
Disaster averted… :clown:

By all means purchase the machines from others that are selling them to you to refurb…
When buying, try buy machines that are similar to eachother so that you can canabalize one to repair another.. Don’t pay any more than £30 for each one if they are complete and clean, less if they are not.
A good piece of advise would be to plug each one in and put it on spin; this way you can test the ‘operation’ of the pump, interlock, motor, board, bearings… this isn’t to say that these items will be in good condition but at least they will be operable and you can overt buying dead machines. This way you only buy salvageable machines that if a machine is not economically viable to repair or refurbish it will certainly be worth more than their cost in the salvaged spares..
