The thing is Doc but Beko agents prefer not to draw too much attention to themselves. Just get on with the job with stealth and determination then take the rewards.

Lets be honest an manufacture can cave issues, the drier one I believe is a capacitor issue, this is a bought in part so you can’t say its a Beko design issue, its more a an supply issue and perhaps buying from untrustworthy suppliers, no one can foresee what will happen in 12 months or 3 years stuff happens.
I worked in the IT industry in early 2000 for a few years and there was a spate of capacitors on the motherboard that would fail after a short period of time, it hit almost every make including people like Dell, Intel, HP and others, in the end it was caused by Industrial espionage in Taiwan but it does show it can happen to any company no matter how big or small

Granted but, there’s no evidence at all to say that’s the cause.

True!….. I’m thinking they used plastic sheathed capacitors ( those that explode out of their sides and burn like a candle ) and the mod is to stick in metal ones?….just a hunch…..can anyone confirm I wonder?

If it was Indesit you might worry the Mafia is us up to something.March 2, 2013 at 7:04 pm #391340A1engineer

the mod kit includes a new cap, metal bracket to relocate the cap around 10cm to the right of original location, a new cable tie and instructions on what wires to “tape up”
Knowhow in Scotland are doing stacks of them, so much so the gas cooker Installers are going out with loads every day 😉

These low price point machines inevitably contain compromises in their components and design, mostly it just means a short useful life and todays customers dont really expect much else, they seem happy to go along with this wasteful system in fact.
When you start getting a reputation for putting your customers lives at risk and indeed being linked to deaths ….. 😯
The gains in market share so hard won in recent years might just start to go on the slide.
I bet Indesit do well of of this 😉

I dissagree with you, there is a lot of customers that do care about quality and lifespan and where there products come from, manufacturers such as Liebherr, Miele, Bosch, Neff and siemens to name a few run very successful business’s from making quality products, so your statement is very wrong.
And i know that even these manufacturers have problems, the issue here is how Beko reacted to these problems, in respect to their gas cookers they knew back in 2008 there was a problem. Also isnt it strange how Belling never got mentioned, nearly all their cookers were made by Beko at one point, when this problem came up they shifted production back to liverpool, pretty much got away without any bad publicity!

Ken blames the user and Madmac the manufacturer and in essence BOTH user and manufacturer are to blame. The user often blamed for taking unnecessary risks, the manufacturer blamed for not making adequate ‘what if?’ precautions. But also to blame are the poor European safety standards allowing these products onto the market in the first place. Also the ease with which the manufacturer can get away with murder simply by being quick into issuing a ‘Safety Recall’ (a.k.a : Get out of jail card) notice.
Many manufacturers have their own team of engineers informing their own designers and marketing about their safety issues. Often they are ignored because an alternative adds more cost to the product. That has always been so but in one example, the case of the fridge component exposed to potential water damage and then catching fire! It begs the question as to why this was ever given the go-ahead in the first place? Shsssssh…….we will never know the answer to that question. The get out of jail card did the trick once more. 😉

Excuse me Martin, I didn’t blame anyone.
I pointed out that there’s no evidence to lay the blame with any party as yet but I chose to point out that there might just be an alternative explanation than simply jumping to a conclusion minus the information to back it up.
IMO it would be irresponsible to blame either Beko or the customer until all the facts are in.

I was really commenting on the mindset of the type of customer who buys at the average Beko price point Dr D 😉
They generally realize they shouldn’t expect too much in the way of longevity from their purchase.(Although some still think £200 buys a quality machine)
Doesn’t mean they deserve to be killed by it mind you! 😯
