Beko got a hammering last night on ITV news (End of the world broadcasting channel), they quoted various appliances with issues currently around 125,000 still not modified.
I bet Beko customer care line is red hot today.

Looks like an Electrolux group T/D to me from whats left.
Maybe time they let Martin loose with his loop and insulation tester, the new super hero, lets call him “Super Loopy Man”.

I actually feel sorry for Beko in part on this as it might not be their fault. We don’t know what the issue or cause is as yet.
Trial by media is never a heap of fun but, given the previous cooker and fridge freezer thing, pretty much inevitable for Beko.
When I read that dryer thing I can’t help but think, it was installed where it shouldn’t have been in terms of environment and obviously then left completely unattended as it would have been out of sight. So, if anything did go wrong, by the time it was noticed, it would have been far too late to prevent major damage.
Big thing is though, we don’t know what caused it yet.
We had one a while back where we were being blamed for a fire in a dryer and, turns out when it was investigated quickly and my thanks to the two engineers involved that helped, that it was the customer’s own stupid fault. She’d been drying a plastic backed bathroom mat. The plastic had broken up and melted onto the heater.
It wasn’t a fire as such but it was a big mess.
I spoke to the woman who told me that the mat was from M&S (aren’t they all!) and that M&S’s instructions said that it could be dried in a tumble dryer. I asked her to get the person that told her that from M&S to contact me as this seemed incorrect or to send me images of the label on the item that said it could be put in a dryer.
Never heard any more about it.
The moral of the story being, it’s easy to jump to a conclusion that is completely incorrect simply through a lack of information and, never, ever underestimate the abject stupidity of the public who will blame anyone for that stupidity, so long as it isn’t them.
As appliance repairers however we KNOW what is in a dryer that can burn and, we know there’s not a lot that can burn with full on flames. So, the flame has to get inside the drum where the clothes are to ignite them, how does that happen? If you think about it logically then it should never happen.
The biggest problem I’ve ever seen causing burning smells or burnt residues in a dryer is from fluff or lint if you like getting onto the heater. Normally that happens because the stupid customer hasn’t cleaned the filters as they have been told to do but, of course they will tell you otherwise despite the rock solid evidence in front of them.
I wouldn’t hang Beko on this just yet in short until we all know for sure what happened.
K.

It is scary that drier can be bought, chucked in a Garage and used 5 hours a day or 3 years and never get the lint removed then when it goes up its instantly the manufactures fault.
When I’m asked about using machines when out or un supervised I all ways tell the not to, washing machines and dishwashers are most likely to flood in the event of of a problem, fires are rear but with driers its a far larger risk
People are often surprised they they should not leave them

I believe the sub-contractors doing the recall fix are replacing the motor capacitor?

I dont feel sorry for beko at all, this fire hazzard of a tumble dryer is because of a design fault, its a well known mod that is being done.

May be so, but next year they will drop their payment rates to recover this extra cost.
