Not claiming it’s always better. Our machine lives almost directly below the combi in the utility room so the water has less than a metre of copper to travel through.
As the pipework is within the ‘thermal envelope’ of the house, even that wouldn’t be wasted heat in the heating season. An inefficient old clunker of a boiler sparking up to send hot water 30 feet via un-insulated pipes running under a suspended wooden floor…not so much.
Definitely depends on your individual circumstances though, it must be said.

hot fill is dead like twin tubs. I dare say that anyone under say 35 has never bought a hot and cold fill. it would have to be sold to them possibly along with the cost of fitting a hot tap!

I notice looking at the Ebac range that they are cold fill or hot and cold fill. Would be interesting to find out if the hot pipe can be omitted and the program changed to accept that is the case, or are we going back to the nightmare of ‘y’ or ‘F’ connectors. I may contact them and ask. A hot and cold produced machine may be all about marketing I suppose, to win back customers who are convinced their old machine was more efficient. I still get the blank look sometimes when I try to explain.

Oh I see the spirit of Conan Doyle is alive and well in you and no mistake.
If you have been following the concept of Ebac’s break into the washing machine market from the outset. Then their research led them to realise the public were seeking a machine that had a hot and cold fill. They questioned 1000’s of potential on-line customers as to what they wanted in a THEIR own machine. The result of that feedback was conclusive, hence why they are reintroducing a hot and cold fill range.
Years ago car manufacturers stopped fitting spare wheels in car boots. Instead they put a can off squirty gunge. The idea was to save boot space and no doubt the planets polar bears by making just 4 wheels and not 5. Sound economic and moral judgement no doubt. But the car buying public weren’t happy, they demanded one more wheel on their wagon. Today many manufacturers have listened and reintroduced the spare wheel.

My old LG washer has hot and cold fill, I can’t remember how much of the hot water it drew from the combi boiler. The boiler is 4 meters from the machine.
The only program which appears to be using the hot fill only is the Eco 60 wash, the rest of them doesn’t with the exception of the 90 degrees wash. IMO, I think it’s a marketing ploy and doesn’t do much in terms of saving money. Most of the time the 40 deg wash program are used and it’s cold fill.

Prices looks reasonable especially with 5 years guarantee.
Curry’s is the only major retailer that can display the machine other than via independence outlet. As much I disapprove Curry’s, I think it’s a major thing to have that on board for a lesser known brand.
I mean look at Amica, says it will be major but 7 years later it’s not major, just a minority and some retailers withdrew the products.
The market is flooded with too many brands. We have lesser known brand vying for a slice of the market such as Servis, Panasonic, Amica, Ebac, Stateman, It’s hard to shake the consumer off the brand loyalty and at the end of the day the consumer vote with their money.
I really do hope this Ebac machine would stand up to the test of time and reliability would be proven against popular brands. I have one question to ask, are Ebac machines sealed drum or split tub? If it’s the former then forget it, if it is the latter then we ought to pitch it to our customers.

Split drums were evident in a pic from inside the factory but will they stick with them if the accountants think a welded one will save a fiver per unit in the future ?
I will certainly recommend them if they are fixable and parts prices make the maintenance of them viable.
Seriously thinking of buying one when they’re available as our machine is past its best.
Eddie.

Ebac will probably steer well clear of UKW. By that I mean they will not appreciate the online trade autopsy style criticism that these free speech forums allow. IMO such was the demise of ISE. The web was alive will negative vibes, an issue Ebac will do well to avoid. Just my opinion of course, and I am grateful for the opportunity to express it here. Long live UKW and I wish Ebac all the luck in the world !
