Thinking of buying a new dishwasher, Hoover, hopefully more reliable then this piece of …………; Hoover is about £250.

ParticipantAs listed earlier, the machine faulting immediately is caused by any of
1) Temperature sensor failure
2) Undertray flooded (leak)
3) Uncontrolled water inletAlso, possible fault with computer board.
The only action you can take (with the machine unplugged) is to see if the undertray is flooded by leaning the machine back. This will run out any water, but doesn’t solve the problem – you still have to find the leak.
Also, press and hold the “Start” button down for 5 seconds. This may well reset the computer for you.
Apart from that, I’m afraid you’re washing up tomorrow! 🙁

Generally, if there is no flashing light (error code) and it doesn’t default to rinse then the module is at fault. This is because the module can check everything else (that’s the theory anyway) except itself. Therefore no error code = faulty module.

The pressing “start” for 5 seconds seems to have cleared it up for me.

I think I may have solved my F4 problem, I put in a jug of water, the pump went, water drained out, then the wash cycle started, I will let you know how it went later today.

Sounds like your drain pump was cavitating, later machines had new software on the pcb which switched the pump on and off a few times to prevent it airlocking.
Make sure your drain hose goes up from the rear of the machine and not along the floor before going up to the drain. This will help prevent airlocking.DP

Thanks for the tips. Our cure for the F4 problem was to check the drain hose, and remove the plug (cork) from inside. My girlfriend just moved, an engineer was here to install the dishwasher, how could he left that in?
I have an answer for that question, but the whole story is very sad. I think the guy wanted MONEY. My girlfriend is new in town, has a little baby, just got divorced. She seems to be alone, because I live in another town. The engineer was here to install the used machine to the water system. So he put everything together and placed the cork in the drain hose. So when the machine is not working who will my new in town girlfirend call?
Him. He does some fake work, and gets money…
Even if she thinks of that the problem is with the drain hose, she couldn’t have checked it herself because he stressed the screw VERY hard…
If she somehow finds the cork, he can say, oh surely the movers placed it to prevent water coming out. This is not this guys lucky day. My girlfriend’s father is a plumber(lives in another town, that’s why she needed engineer), and I was here to screw off the stuff. We did the moving, I was there when the guys were swearing because the water was dripping in their truck.
So on monday I’ll have a little chat with this guy.
Basically you’re safe from him, the whole story happened in Hungary, in the countryside…January 23, 2009 at 6:49 pm #110957whirlpooldon

Ur best bet is to clean/replace the pressure switch, i bet its all gunked up with food residue, ( the swich can be removed by reaching in through the access panel at the bottom, its slightly obstructed by the heater but with a bit of care can be squeezed out, alternativly you can clean it by removing the filter and scrubbing it with a brush )
i find this is the cause in 90 percent of f4 cases, this is of course assuming there is nothing blocking the pump !!! -
