ParticipantI don’t usually look a gift horse in the mouth but these active burst tabs don’t seem to be as good as they are cracked up to be.
My dishwasher rinsaid ran out last week and as the new tabs are all in one I didn’t top up.
First thing Her indoors noticed was that the dishes were not dried properley then when left to cool down developed a smell like they had been washed in pondwater.
There is nothing wrong with the machine and after topping up the rinsaid all is fine.
Needless to say when the freebies run out I will be going back to the old stuff. ❗Steve

That’s strange – Mrs P thinks they’re the bees knees. She says it’s the only “pre-packed” product that she found so far that works.

hi all
bear in mind that all dishwasher tabs ect state that in hard water area’s you still need to use salt and rinse aid.
The other problem I have found is that NOBODY sells the FAIRY tabs.
The local sainsbury’s dont stock them ( thats 3 in 5 mile radius) plenty of the Finish tablets and own brands.

Ive seen them in our local Tesco Bryan, so I would imagine its national in their stores.
Just to add……. has anyone seen the advert for the fairy tabs?
I can invisage problems afoot.
They intimate in the video that the liquid part of the tab is in fact Fairy washing up liquid 8O. So if customers run out of tabs guess what they will use in their dishwashers 🙄Greg

KeymasterI’ve been testing them for months on end in an F&P dishdrawer here at home with no issues at all.
I have them on test in an Indesit (4yrs old), a Zanussi slimline (under 1yr old) an old DW66TCR (IIRC) and another old DW21TCR (IIRC) slimline. No problems on any of them and no residues, all are obviously in soft water.
I’ve had no reported issues with smells or sticking tabs from any of them. Whitevanman, since the case disolves on contact with water, if there was anything left then water can’t be reaching it as after that it’s only powder and some liquid surfactant which would disolve easily.
EFS, what’s the make and model of the DW as I’m sure the lab guys will be interested to investigate further. That’s the nice thing about dealing with P&G as they are people that actually care about what we find in the field. 😉

The dishwasher we use is a Whirlpool ADG993 (1996 Model) which has always given good results.
I think the problem is that not enough rinseaid/fragrance is left at the end of the wash cycle.
We have the benefit of very hard water here so maybe one tab is not enough.
Two tabs a wash is a bit expensive so I will still be going back to the cheap stuff.
Speaking of cheap stuff I was in Nitto this week and saw some Fairy bursts but without the liquid bubble.
Is this another new product or an old one going cheap ❓Steve

Yep, in hard water areas one isn’t enough and Finish etc. all advise the same. Or you need salt and probably rinse aid and I’d go down that road in hard water areas as it’s the safer, cheaper option and better IMO.
The older Fairy was a stamped tablet with a different coloured centre, I forget what it did, but it worked well enough for me. Very poorly marketed though and hard to find.
To my knowledge there are now none without the surfactant on them, but there are two, normal (green) and lemon (yellow).
Personally I wouldn’t use the cheap stuff, but then I have had the benefit of seeing the testing and differences side-by-side in lab tests, so I know just how much of a difference it makes. 😉

Was it these Ken?

KeymasterAh, I seem to recall something being said to me about those now I see them. Poor memory I’m afraid and a pretty big range or products to remember. 😕
Yeah, IIRC, they’re the budget ones but not as good at cutting through grease. Still should do the job though although I haven’t tested them… yet.
They will compete with the lower end, older Finish stuff on price and will give a higher performance, I don’t even need to test them to know that. 😉

Nothing wrong with the cheap stuff IMO.Been using Lidl tabs for years now and apart from some cheap glassware going cloudy (which would have happened anyway with the premium stuff) no problems and you won’t find a cleaner machine and never had a cleaner or descaler put in it. 8)

Detergent marketing gone mad IMHO. 🙄
3 in 1? 4 in 1? 5 in 1? Liquitabs? Power Bursts?….Power Balls to the lot of them I say. And what’s this? “Two tablets in hard water areas?” total tosh if you ask me. 😮
Now I fully accept the ‘science’ of washing machine powder with the varying fabrics, soil levels, water hardness levels and loading restrictions. But come on now, we are talking dishwashers here. They are all the bloomin’ same, all washing the same dirty dishes and cutlery. For that you just need a nominal amount of soft or softened water and a high pressure water jet to apply the cleaning action. Add to that a dash of detergent (any old cheap powder will do – cheapy tablet if you wish) and a teeny weeny splash of rinse-aid at the last minute. No lab tests required as dishwashers have worked under the exact same conditions for the last 30 odd years, nothing changes mate!
Just to proove any possible doubters that any old detergent will do for excellent results, try a spoonful of ‘Bar Keepers Friend’ instead….squeaky clean and sparkling as ever you’ll find. 😉

Sorry Martin, but you’re dead wrong. That may well be your opinion but it’s certainly not based in fact. And in fact many of the variables you use to compare to laundry actually apply to dishwashers as well.

OK I’ll put my hands up and bow to your ‘insider knowledge’ on the subject. I will not highjack this thread trying to force my long term dishwasher experience on others. Those lab men in white coats pouring substances into test tubes will doubtless prove me dead wrong too 😉

I think Martin has a good point when he says that simple detergents and rinse aid worked well enough for a lot of years. As long as the machine is working OK and the correct dosage of salt is used.
There is a continual pressure on manufacturers to be producing innovative products in order to compete with other innovative products produced by their rivals.
Whether these products actually perform as advertised is another matter. It is the publics perception of the advertised product that is important. Will they be tempted to go out and buy it.
As these type of products are usually short term and their performance is not very easy to assess anyway because it is mainly subjective. ie. Do I think these glasses are cleaner than with my last product? Manufacturers can get away with this type of approach.
This not to say that there is no room for product improvement but you have got to balance this against the hype that often accompanies products
Andy 😀
