KeymasterHi,
Just wondering if someone may be able to help…
Our Smeg DWI612C dishwasher has a fault that has so far baffled the engineer that we called out.
Basically, when switched on the machine starts OK, the drain pump starts and it sounds like water is flowing (water softener rinsing maybe?). After about a minute, the drain pump switches off and the machine starts to fill. The wash pump does not start (dont know if its supposed to at this stage?), you hear the pressure switch click over, but machine continues to fill for a few more seconds, then the drain pump kicks in again and empties the machine – I think the anti-flood pressure switch kicks in. The LED’s on the door then show three flashing and one on constant – which doesnt correspond to any of the error messages in the manual (helpful!).
I’ve checked both the pressure switches with a multi meter and they (appear) to be working correctly. I think the engineer has also tested these, but he has ordered a new one to try it. Also tried a programmer reset as advised by Smeg, but to no avail.
Any advice/ suggestions/ help on what we could try or what the problem might be would be appreciated. Thanks.
Ken

KeymasterHi Ken,
Sounds like the famed “E2” error and it’s not a DIY fix.
If you get your repairer to join UKW we can talk him through it all though and hopefully get it resolved for you. Eitehr that or see if there’s any of the guys in your area in the directories or pop your postal district up and we’ll try to help.

K,
Thanks for your very swift response!
As I said, the lights on the display don’t correspond to that error message, but I will check further on this anyway. You said the “famed E2 error” – can you tell me more about this? Also any idea what component might be to blame….. or is it not that simple?

KeymasterIt’s not just that simple I’m afraid. The usual cause is a blocked air break/side chamber but there are no less than 12 different faults that can lead to the error being generated, hence the advice I gave.

Oh that great!
I’ve got some technical sheets which I printed off a Smeg web site – there are a number of tests to try for the E2 fault, so I’ll try these and see what happens.
Thanks

Perhaps you too could get the answer you need from the Smeg Website. I have put the link below for your convenience 🙂

9 times out of 10 its a food blockage in the transfer pipe between the metering tank and the sump. You can do a DIY which will almost certainly clear it….lift out the filter in the base and at about the one o’clock position in the sump you’ll see a little black rubber flap (about 1 inch diameter) This can be carefully lifted out by its top to reveal a pipe opening. Push in something flexible but soft to clear the blockage (I use a piece of silicon tubing) It needs to be flexible because the pipe turns right 90 degrees just inside. Set the machine on a prog and as soon as its taken some water on board open the door and mop out the muck that has flushed. Replace the flap and filter and bob’s your uncle!

Thanks Clive,
Your advice was far more practical and accurate than the smeg website (unless I was looking in the wrong place).
It certainly did the trick (it was a mess!) and saved me at least £50 in call out fees. I also removed the reservoir and gave that a soak and clean as much as possible using a straw and bursts of warm water for good measure.
Thanks again for the sound advice.

Peter,
The programmer reset was as follows:
With machine switched off…..
Switch on (Press On/Off switch on door)
Press program button 4 times within 2 secs
Wait 15 secs *
Switch off* This step was not as advised by the Smeg help people, but it was on a web site I found. Waiting 15 secs seemed to work for my machine, whereas switching off immediately didn’t.
Hope this may help

This sounds like an E7 fault common to the Diplomat (Smeg made) D/washers, the Diplomat version can be reset quite easily, i think i have seen a thread on this on the site but if anyone wants the reset details PM meDave

We have a smeg STX1.2 which after following the E7 errors guide, clean out the pipe behind the black plug, continues to show an E7 after a short period of running a program. Are there any further suggestion, before i attempt to clean again. HOw far in should one insert an object to clean behind the black plug ?
