Yes, free beer and wine along with freebies like head torches always goes over well!

Indeed, let’s hope that hit home.

Out of interest, did anyone raise the issue of manufacturers pricing structure of spare parts, in relation to how they can offer, in example, drum replacements for £90 all in when we cant even purchase the drum for that…
I know that this may not be Alices’ beef but she may know who is the best body to raise the issue too?February 28, 2016 at 8:56 am #426097stratfordgirl

Alice is a TV presenter. I don’t think she is best qualified to advise on this complex issue. I certainly don’t want the fact Indesit offer cheap drum repairs highlighted on national TV.
Indesit’s pricing structure is based on swings and roundabouts. On some jobs (eg heater change) they are quids in, on others (bearing change) they make a loss. They know how much the average repair costs, and base their fixed fee on that. They do this so they can collect money up front, and it enables easy bolt on of “Repair and Protect”, with the commission and repeat business that generates.
The body that potentially could do something about unfair parts pricing is the Competition and Markets Authority. However, they may not be that interested, as they have to prioritise their resources on those areas of unfair competition they feel are most harmful to the consumer.
Anyone can register a complaint to the CMA here:
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/tell-the-cma-about-a-competition-or-market-problem
The category most relevant is probably “Businesses abusing their ‘dominant position'”.

I know that this may not be Alices’ beef but she may know who is the best body to raise the issue too?She was there for one reason Tim – Tumble Dryers .
She wanted the engineers to say in public that the design is of a dangerous nature and the appliances should be recalled, it was pointed out to her that there is a responsibility upon the consumer to regularly maintain there products to ensure there was no lint build up,I think it’s fair to say no one has said that to her so far. We did have Q&A sessions but no one raised the question you askFebruary 28, 2016 at 12:32 pm #426100iadom

On the contrary Lawrence, I for one have told her via email and in phone conversations exactly that about cleaning. Still doesn’t alter the fact that these dryers are badly designed, made worse by cost cutting over many years.

Quite probably very true Jim but haven’t they pretty much all suffered the same fate as they all race to the bottom of the market just as is the case with most other appliances?
